After 20 years, Helmut Leitl gave up his position as chairman of VfR Haag and retired as a volunteer.

The deputy follows in his footsteps.

Haag

– There was a turning point on Thursday at the annual general meeting of VfR Haag: After 20 years, Helmut Leitl resigned as chairman of the association and said goodbye to voluntary retirement.

The 72 members present elected the previous second chairman Christian Drausnick as his successor.

It got emotional a few times in the sports home when the outgoing club boss Helmut Leitl thanked his long-time companions on the VfR board and the community for the great cooperation.

“The 20 years were a good time.

Sometimes exhausting, but all in all positive, and we were able to move a lot," summed up the 66-year-old, whom Mayor Anton Geier thanked for his outstanding performance over such a long period of time.

A lot has changed under Leitl's leadership, "more than either of us could have imagined," emphasized the head of the town hall, with a view to the new construction of the facility and the sports center.

Goodbye goodbye

As a farewell, Leitl had good news to announce: The structural inspection by the government of Upper Bavaria has now been completed - and with it a large part of the funding for the new sports facility, amounting to more than 5.3 million euros, is finally done.

There are still some five-digit costs, but his successors have to take care of them now.

In the meantime, it has also been possible to establish winter operations for departments such as youth football, tennis and archery in the Stockschützenhalle.

Long-standing members were also honored at the Annual General Meeting: (from left) Mayor Anton Geier, Hildegard Burger (40 years with VfR), Balthasar Sellmaier (50), Walter Brandmeier (60), Paula Senger (25), Christian Drausnick (25), Elisabeth Hiebl (40), Sebastian Elephand (25) and Helmut Leitl (former chairman).

Also gratifying: The archers, which have been under the umbrella of the gymnastics department for about a year and now have 40 members between the ages of six and 70, were founded on Thursday as a separate archery division.

This means that there are now nine departments under the umbrella of VfR Haag, said Leitl happily.

(By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)

Contribution adjustment in the football department

In order to steer the coexistence in an orderly way, the board is currently developing a usage regulation for dealing with sports facilities, equipment, changing rooms and Co. The meeting also decided on a significant adjustment of contributions in the football department.

This is overdue after more than ten years because the costs for maintenance and the like have risen, said football boss Dominik Reiter.

This measure should help ensure that the trend in Thursday's cash report continues.

Because VfR Haag was able to more than halve its minus compared to the previous year.

The last official act for Helmut Leitl was the honoring of long-standing members on the program.

The VfR boss was then said goodbye to retirement with a standing ovation.

Mayor Geier took over as election officer and was finally able to wish the new board of directors, headed by Drausnick and Alceste Avonda, every success.
