Brazil will have to do without superstar Neymar and defender Danilo for at least the second group game of the World Cup in Qatar.
Both players suffered ligament injuries and will be out for the game against Switzerland on Monday (5 p.m., TV: ARD, Stream: Magenta).
This was announced by the team doctor of the Brazilian team Rodrigo Lasmar.
"The tests show a lateral ligament injury in Neymar's right ankle, along with a small bruise," Lasmar said after an MRI on Friday.
Neymar picked up the injury in the World Cup opener against Serbia (2-0) during a duel with Nikola Milenković.
The Brazilian limped after that but kept playing until he was substituted in the 79th minute.
In addition to Neymar, right-back Danilo will also be absent against Switzerland, who won 1-0 against Cameroon at the start of Group G.
The 31-year-old from Juventus had played more than 90 minutes against Serbia.
How long Neymar and Danilo will actually be out was initially unclear.
"We will make an assessment every day to make the best decisions," said Lasmar.
