Back in competition for the first time since the Tokyo 2021 Olympic Games, Clarisse Agbégnénou came out injured in the right knee

Clarisse Agbégnénou could not have dreamed of a worse return to competition.

Absent since her gold medal at the Tokyo 2021 Olympic Games, the time in particular to give birth to her first child, the French judoka made her comeback during the Champions League final between Red Star de Champigny and the US Orleans, this Saturday in Georgia.

The -63 kg Olympic champion injured her right knee with 3′02′ still left in her fight against her compatriot Margaux Pinot.

The two tricolor judokas found themselves on the ground, on their knees, on an apparently innocuous action.

The licensee from US Orléans got up without any problem, just the opposite of her compatriot.

Clarisse Agbégnénou returned to the center of the tatami only on her left leg, and ended up giving up her fight, supported by Margaux Pinot to get out of the tatami.

A disturbing injury?

“On the action, they both fall, they can do it again a thousand times, nothing happens.

It's a halt.

She felt that it cracked a little.

She froze.

We have to wait for the exams, ”explained Philippe Sudre, the president of Red Star de Champigny to

Clarisse Agbégnénou had not fought since July 31, 2021 in Tokyo and the mixed team final won by France against Japan.

This European Club Championship marked his return to competition.

After his retirement, the Red Star found themselves trailing 3-0 and could say goodbye to their dreams of a final victory.

His club was already vice-champion of Europe last year, without Agbégnénou.

For his part, Teddy Riner, aligned with PSG in +90 kg, was beaten by the Georgian Guram Tushishvili in the quarter-finals.
