Activists on social networks in Egypt and several other Arab countries celebrated the waving of the Palestinian flag by two athletes on the Egyptian national team in front of an Israeli athlete, after winning first and second place in the World Junior Karate Championship, held in Slovenia.
The activists distributed a photo in which the Egyptians appeared on stage receiving the Palestinian flag from their coach, in front of 15-year-old Idan Oganov, who won third place and proudly waved the Israeli flag himself.
A local newspaper noted that the delegation of Egypt's under-15 youth team included four players, with Islam Ahmed winning first place, Omar Sharif ranked second, in addition to Musa Mohammadi and Youssef Mohammed.
Bloggers on social media praised the step taken by the two young men, as well as the support they provided to the Palestinian people through the gesture.
The event is covered by the major networks, including Al Jazeera, which is currently busy with the home World Cup.

Palestinian activist Jihad Hales described the photo as a "historic scene".
The journalist, Abdullah al-Abri, commented on the photo and tweeted: "I congratulate every Arab who is loyal to his people, and only a respectable person with principle does so, because it's simple, in Palestine there are people with respect."
The International Karate Federation released a full video clip on its official YouTube channel, showing the delegation run accompanying the players of the Egyptian national team, presenting the flag to Egypt.
The delegation was eager to take pictures with the flag of Egypt and Palestine with the first and second place winners, while at the same time chants were heard inside the hall - "Free Palestine".
