After the botched start against Japan (teams at the 2022 World Cup), the DFB team already has their backs to the wall and needs a win against the seventh in the FIFA world rankings to still have realistic chances of making it into the round of 16.

World Cup 2022: Germany meets feared opponents Spain
In recent years, Spain has increasingly turned into a feared opponent of the Germans.
A look at the statistics shows the extent.
Germany last won a competitive match against Spain in 1988.
At that time, the DFB-Elf won the group match at the Munich Olympic Stadium 2-0 as part of the European Championships in Germany.
Since then, the final defeat at the EM 2008, the semifinals at the 2010 World Cup and the 0:6 swatter in the Nations League 2020 followed.

Before the "final" against Spain — Sané returns to the DFB squad
For Hansi Flick's team, it's just about breaking this trend.
The national coach can also fall back on Bayern star Leroy Sané for this.
The offensive player had missed the opening game against Japan due to knee problems.
However, the 26-year-old was able to take part in the German team's final training session on Saturday evening and is now back in the squad for the second group game.
According to information from the SID, Sané can at least be used as a substitute.
In the starting eleven, Flick has to find other options for the offensive (WM squad DFB).
Serge Gnabry and Jamal Musiala formed the wingers against Japan.
Thomas Müller had started in tenth position and Kai Havertz in the lead.
Help from Central America?
Germany must hope for Costa Rica
Before the game, however, the German fans and players will first focus on the other encounter in Group E between Japan and Costa Rica (we report in the live ticker).
In this Germany can hope for support from Costa Rica.
If the Central Americans win against the favored Japanese, the DFB team would still have a chance of progressing even if they lost to Spain.
On the other hand, if Japan wins, Germany could safely be eliminated from the World Cup tonight.
