Defense work is sometimes overrated - at least that's what the Tölzer Löwen and EC Peiting thought on Sunday evening.

In an entertaining game, the spectators got to see 13 goals.

Peiting

- What a wild game!

The Tölzer Löwen and EC Peiting delivered a first-class goal spectacle at 7: 6 (1: 2, 3: 4, 2: 0, 0: 0, 1: 0).

Peiting was consistently behind, sometimes by two goals, but managed to equalize three times thanks to strong morale.

In the shootout, the ECP had the big moment on its side.

Thomas Heger scored the extra point in the fourth round of penalties and his third goal that evening in front of 1150 spectators in the RSS Arena.

"The game was good for the spectators, not so much for the coaches," Peiting's coach Anton Saal commented on a game that was free of tactical constraints.

The ECP coach also praised his team's "amazing energy performance and morale".

Early penalty time for Peiting will be punished immediately

But first things first: The "Lions" took the lead early on.

Already at the third change, the guests accidentally sent six field players onto the ice.

That meant a penalty, the hosts used the majority immediately.

Tölz needed just 18 seconds from the face-off before Philipp Schlager shot the disc sharply in front of the goal.

Christoph Fischhaber reacted the quickest, hit the target a tenth of a second earlier than ECP goalkeeper Konrad Fiedler and completed the goal to make it 1-0 (2nd).

However, Peiting was unimpressed and attracted attention for the first time through Lukas Gohlke, who failed in front of Tölz keeper Josef Hölzl.

Samuel Payeur equalizes for Peiting

Samuel Payeur needs far fewer chances, even if they are not in the “top-class” category.

Payeur curled into the opponent's third, changed sides and overcame Hölzl with a half-shot in the direction of the keeper - 1:1 (8th).

Then two Peitingen strikers wanted to move the puck in unison with a courageous step out of the third, but Dylan Eichstadt was able to save it.

After the pass to Ludwig Nirschl, there was plenty of room for the top scorer from Tölz – 2:1 (15th).

"The gaps were a bit big," Saal complained.

Peiting makes up for the first time in this game from a two-goal deficit

A one-timer by Erik Gollenbeck to make it 3-1 (25th) was already a first indication of a Tölz home win.

But the people of Peiting had a massive objection to that.

First, after a spirited solo, Michael Bartsch found the gap in the long corner of the goal from the left – 2:3 (30th).

Then Payeur showed his finesse again.

After a feint, the 24-year-old found a passage next to the near post – it was already 3:3 (31st).

Tölzer Löwen back in the lead after Schlager's dream goal

Then it was the Tölzer's turn again.

When Captain Schlager's dream goal made it 4:3 (32 nd ) - target acceptance and feint against goalie Fiedler happened in one movement - the people from Peiting were unstructured.

Thomas Heger countered again with a shot from the right face-off circle – 4:4 (36th).

But again nothing helped.

Peiting's keeper Fiedler looked dismayed when Nick Huard put all his skills into a dribble, outmaneuvered two ECP cracks and shot the goalie through the savers to make it 5:4 (38').

The Tölzers followed up and scored through Tyler Ward, whose shot Sean Morgan unluckily deflected into his own goal to make it 6:4 (40th).

Peiting turns a 4:6 into a 6:6 in 54 seconds

Again the Peitinger seemed defeated.

But think!

54 seconds were enough for them to equalize again.

Thomas Heger scored from a half-right position with a pawn trick to make it 5:6 (44th), Felix Brassard then punished Tölzer's defensive carelessness with the 6:6 (45th).

Suddenly the game went back and forth.

Post hits and chances at both ends kept the spectators in suspense.

The same applied to the overtime, which turned into an open exchange of blows.

Heger's seamless penalty in the Kreuzeck then tipped the scales in favor of Peitinger, who, according to Saal, "scored two lucky points after falling behind several times".
