In the 6:7 defeat after a penalty shoot-out against EC Peiting, the Tölzer Löwen lost their two-goal lead twice.

Bad Tölz

– "We should have closed the sack", regretted coach Ryan Foster, who admitted: "We play such a good game against Riessersee and lose against Peiting - there's a bit of frustration there."

Creative attack, wild in defence

The Tölzer Löwen and EC Peiting are neighbors in the table, have a similar goal difference and a similar style of play: Lots of creative ideas in attack and God helps in defence.

It went back and forth like this for 60 minutes yesterday.

Christoph Fischhaber, Ludwig Nirschl and Erik Gollenbeck shot up a 3:1 lead by the 25th minute.

Up until then, the lions had had a significant increase in shots on goal, which pleased Foster: "I think we played really well in the first third."

Peitinger double strike to 3:3

This changed the longer the game lasted.

After 30 minutes, the Peitinger didn't let the lions get out of their own third for a minute until Manuel Bartsch started a solo from the edge of the gang and shortened it to 2:3.

Just 38 seconds later it was 3-3 when the Lions failed to block a shot from Samuel Payeur.

Unfocused before the second Peitinger double strike

It was similar around the second third break.

Again, it appeared the Lions could turn the tide in their favor.

When the score was 5:4, the supposedly game-winning scene followed: Felix Brassard lured the puck from Dillon Eichstadt on the blue line, ran across the entire field, aimed in the direction of Kreuzeck, but Löwen goalkeeper Josef Hölzl saved spectacularly with his stick hand.

In a direct countermove, Tyler Ward tanked up on the boards, moved in front of the goal and netted to make it 6:4 (40th).

For the second time, the lions led by two goals - shouldn't there be anything left to burn?

thought.

After the restart, the guests needed less than a minute to equalize with a double strike (44th, 45th).

"We weren't focused there," criticized Foster.

Many chances until the last minute

In the final minutes of regular time, Ludwig Nirschl still had several chances to decide the game, but failed again and again to goalkeeper Andreas Fiedler.

It went into overtime with only three against three field players left.

The Tölzer hardly came out of their own third and had problems keeping up with the nimble guests.

Sometimes Hölzl saved in dire need against Thomas Heger (61'), then Samuel Payeur failed at Hölzl (62'), and finally Heger shot just wide (63').

Tyler Ward set the final point: after his solo, the puck stayed on the goal line (65').

Peiting's Heger scores, all Tölzer miss penalties

The thriller continued in the penalty shootout.

All shooters initially failed because of the brilliantly reacting goalkeepers - Ludwig Nirschl, Nick Huard and Tyler Ward for Tölz, Lukas Gohlke, David Miller and Felix Brassard for Peiting.

New shooters had to be chosen.

In the seventh attempt, Thomas Heger nailed the puck into the cross corner while Nick Huard failed again with his trick.

Foster said: "You have to praise Peitinger.

They were fierce and never gave up.

So her win was deserved.”
