With his powerful shot, Niclas Füllkrug catapulted himself into the hearts of German World Cup fans out of nowhere.

He takes it quite calmly.

Al-Khor - 'Let me go, Jamal': With his fierce determination and his instinct to score, Niclas Füllkrug lured the ball away from his team-mate Jamal Musiala, who had refused him a cross pass ten minutes earlier, and executed the full instep for the all-important equalizer at the World Cup 2022 against Spain.

The Bremen striker cannot save himself from praise after his prank - but remains surprisingly cool.

The 29-year-old remains deeply relaxed after arguably the most important goal of his career so far, as if he'd just taken out the trash.

"An automatism that you simply train," replied the native Hanoverian almost bored.

"It's not the first goal I've scored.

Not even the first important one.”

Flick's joker puts himself entirely at the service of the team, everything else leaves him cold: "This one goal means relatively little if we don't make it through the group phase in the end," he sums up soberly.

"We don't need to jump for joy now either." While the international press celebrates the "killer with the gap in his teeth", Füllkrug just keeps going.

World Cup 2022: Füllkrug is pushing into the DFB starting eleven

He's been a national player for 12 days, and in the last and decisive group game against Costa Rica (broadcast date DFB-Elf) he's actually an indispensable part of the starting XI.

It's becoming increasingly clear that the German game needs a target player - and there's hardly a better one than Füllkrug at the moment.
