The Biathlon World Cup will be held for the 46th time.

The schedule as well as all dates, locations and disciplines for the 2022/2023 season can be found here at a glance.

Kontiolahti - The Biathlon World Cup 2022/2023 will take place from November to March.

The season begins in Kontiolahti, Finland, and ends in Oslo, Norway, at Holmenkollen.

A total of nine different locations are used to compete for points.

There is also the Biathlon World Championships in Oberhof (February 8th to 19th, 2023), which is not part of the World Cup (officially: BMW IBU World Cup Biathlon).

The German hopefuls are Denise Herrmann-Wick, who now has a double name after her marriage to the former cross-country skier Thomas Wick, Franziska Preuss and Benedikt Doll.

But there are others who are favorites to win the overall World Cup: Frenchman Quentin Fillon Maillet, last year's men's champion, and Norway's Marte Olsbu Røiseland, who won the women's race.

Erik Lesser, Franziska Hildebrand, Maren Hammerschmidt and Karolin Horchler are no longer there.

All four announced their retirement after last season.

Biathlon World Cup 2022/2023: The disciplines at a glance

In the Biathlon World Cup 2022/2023, the athletes have to prove themselves in seven different disciplines.

New this year: the first six of a race receive significantly more points than before (1st 90 points, 2nd 75 points, 3rd 60 points, 4th 50 points, 5th 45 points, 6th 40 points).

  • Sprint (10 km men, 7.5 km women)

  • Pursuit (12.5 kilometers men, 10 kilometers women)

  • Mass start (15 km men, 12.5 km women)

  • Individual (20 km men, 15 km women)

  • Relay (4x7.5 km men, 4x6 km women)

  • Mixed relay

  • Single Mixed Relay

Biathlon in nine countries: where will the 2022/2023 World Cup take place?

The events of the Biathlon World Cup 2022/2023 will take place in nine different countries.

Finland is the first.

The last competitions of the season take place in Norway.

  • France (15-18 December 2022)

  • Slovenia (5-8 January 2023)

  • Germany (January 11-15, 2023)

Start of the Biathlon World Cup 2022/2023: Kick-off in Finland

On November 29, 2022, the Biathlon World Cup begins in Kontiolahti, Finland.

Women and men will compete there in four races each.

It starts with the individual competitions on Tuesday and Wednesday.

In the following days, the relay, sprint and pursuit races are still to come.

Friday is a rest day.

Dates Biathlon World Cup 2022/2023: Six races in Slovenia

After France, the biathletes say goodbye to a two and a half week break from competition over Christmas and New Year.

The World Cup will not continue until the beginning of January in Pokljuka, Slovenia.

Biathlon World Cup 2022/2023 stops in South Tyrol: Dates in Antholz

The IBU (International Biathlon Union) scheduled six more races the following week.

The scene is Antholz in South Tyrol (Italy).

Benedikt Doll won the mass start there last season.

In addition, the German men's relay with Roman Rees, Philipp Horn, David Zobel and Lucas Fratzscher came third.

The 53rd Biathlon World Championships, which are no longer part of the World Cup, will take place in Oberhof (Thuringia) from February 8th to 19th, 2023.
