Germany's possible opponents in the World Cup Round of 16: Three nations conceivable

Germany has only got one point at this World Cup, but a round of 16 is still possible.

We list the possible opponents.

Al-Shamal - "We're not done here yet," the DFB posted on its social media channels immediately after the 1-1 draw against Spain.

The first point at the 2022 World Cup means that Germany still has a chance of reaching the round of 16.

But which opponent would then be waiting?

Before the second matchday in Group E, the situation was quite tricky.

It was not to be expected that Costa Rica would win against Japan because of the poor performance of the Central Americans at the start against Spain (0:7).

But the surprise succeeded - Costa Rica defeated Japan and thus whirled the constellation upside down.

Before the third matchday it looks like this:

Spain and Japan as well as Germany and Costa Rica meet on the last day of group matches - all at the same time on Thursday evening at 8 p.m.

We explain here how Germany gets to the round of 16.

In the end, the goal difference counts more in the case of a tie than the direct comparison.

In view of the dramatic situation before the group final, this is of course important additional information.

If you believe the betting odds, Spain and Germany will progress to the next round.

A German win against Costa Rica has a rate of 1.10 with the providers, a Spain win against Japan is rated at 1.43.

If the most likely scenario occurs, that Germany defeats Costa Rica and Spain wins against Japan, the Iberians are through as group leaders and the DFB-Elf as group runners-up.

A German victory and a draw between Japan and Spain would also be enough for the Flick team if they then beat Costa Rica by two goals.

Which opponents Spain and Germany then meet in the World Cup round of 16 depends on Group F.

Croatia, Morocco and Belgium are possible, as reported by tz.de.

Group F at the 2022 World Cup: Initial situation before the third matchday

In Group F, the last two group games will take place on Thursday at 4 p.m.

Croatia meets Belgium and Canada meets Morocco.

So it is already clear before the end of the German Group E who could be the possible knockout round opponent for the DFB-Elf.

Croatia and Belgium are the strongest teams purely by name, Canada has already been eliminated and is considered an outsider.

So Morocco could prevail somewhat surprisingly.

In fact, given the current situation, the North Africans are considered the most likely round of 16 participants in this group.

World Cup round of 16: Germany could meet Morocco

A big Moroccan win against Canada could ultimately even mean first place because of a very good goal difference.

Between Croatia and Belgium it should be closer.

It would be, at least in theory, quite possible that Morocco finishes the group first and Croatia comes second.

Would mean: Germany would have to deal with Morocco in the round of 16, Spain would have Croatia as an opponent.

But of course the pairings Germany against Croatia or Germany against Belgium would also be possible.

Either way: on December 5th and 6th at 4 p.m. there will be the round of 16 (game schedule for the 2022 World Cup) between the four most successful teams in groups E and F. Possibly also with Germany.
