The president of the German Tennis Federation, Dietloff von Arnim, is running for president of the world association ITF next year.

First, the "Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung" reported on the personnel decision.

“Our President has been asked by the Board of Tennis Europe to be available for office.

Only the DTB, which has also decided to do so, can officially nominate him," said DTB Vice President Dirk Hordorff of the "FAZ".

Criticism of the Davies Cup

The next ITF elections are scheduled for September 2023 in Cancún, Mexico.

The American David Haggerty has been at the head of the world association since 2015.

Partly because of the change in format of the prestigious Davis Cup 2019, resistance to the 65-year-old had increased in recent years.

Critics also complained that the mode has changed annually since then.

German influence at the top of Olympic federations is rare.

Currently only Klaus Schormann (modern pentathlon) and Thomas Konietzko (canoe) hold such top positions.

Thomas Weikert gave up his position as World Association President in table tennis at the end of 2021 and moved to the head of the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB).

Almost two years ago, von Arnim succeeded Ulrich Klaus as president of the DTB.

From 2004 to 2012 he was organizer and tournament director at the World Team Cup in his home town of Düsseldorf.
