The DFB team was challenged in the second group game of the 2022 World Cup against Spain.

The Flick-Elf missed the win.

The voices of the game.

Munich/Al-Khor – Germany vs. Spain: It was done!

The DFB team almost had to win against Spain to still have a chance of reaching the round of 16 at the 2022 World Cup.

Thanks to Japan's defeat against Costa Rica (0-1) (schedule for the 2022 World Cup), Germany will not be eliminated today even in the event of a possible defeat.

However, Hansi Flick's team wanted to make amends.

The opponent from Spain was the expected strong opponent.

After falling behind, the DFB team came back with a goal from Niclas Füllkrug (83rd).

What do the DFB stars and the national coach say after the game?

We summarize for you the voices from ZDF, MagentaTV and from the mixed zone in the Al-Bayt Stadium in Al-Khor.

Niclas Füllkrug (forward, DFB team) after the game over ...

... the draw against Spain:

"We absolutely wanted to draw this game, the point is important for the feeling.

We wanted to win.”

... Costa Rica's victory at noon:

"Oh, I was very relaxed.

We don't need to freak out now, but we can go into the last game feeling good and hope everything goes well."

Thomas Müller (forward, DFB team) after the game over ...

… Joker Niclas Füllkrug:

“He came in cool, that’s what it’s for.

He announced that in the last few days, he has a real hammer.

He's an incredibly horny guy.”

... the game:

"The 1-1 feels good, we played against very good Spaniards, it wasn't the cleanest blade in terms of play.

But we threw everything into the balance.

Despite everything, we still have a chance of making it into the round of 16.

We can't get more than everything out.

... the return of the now-especially-mentality:

"Absolutely.

If they say so.”

(laughs)

… the pressure before the last group game:

“We had imagined it all differently.

Our task now is to beat Costa Rica and hope that the other result matches ours.”

Thomas Müller (forward, DFB team) after the game on Magenta TV about...

… his feelings after the draw:

“We showed the commitment, the attitude, the running work, the basic virtues.

You have to suffer against Spain.

Unfortunately, we frittered away our good moments of transition, where we won the ball.

Then you fall behind.

The fact that fullness nailed the thing in the crease was of course outstanding.

He gave the team an energy.

We have to win the last game to stay in the tournament.

But we are glad that we still have the chance to do so.”

Leon Goretzka (midfield, DFB team) after the game on ZDF about...

... the great relief after the draw:

"Relief?

I don't know.

If you want, you can say it like that.”

... the tasks of the game:

"Great passion today, we knew that we had to suffer today.

Coming back after conceding requires a great mentality.”

... the possible kickstarter for the tournament:

"I hope so, it was definitely a step in the right direction.

Duels were celebrated.

David Raum's tackle was celebrated.

The bank was there, we were all there.

That must be the insight of the evening.”

Leon Goretzka (midfield, DFB team) after the game on Magenta TV about...

... the performance:

"A great fighting performance against a team that is very sure of the ball.

We knew beforehand that we would suffer and have to chase a lot.

There were eleven players on the pitch who wanted to tear themselves apart.

That's the only way it can go at a World Cup.”

... the topic of determination:

“The goal of abundance is pure determination.

We had a couple of chances to score where we had already missed grains, you can tell that.

But we did well overall.”

Hansi Flick (national coach) after the game on ZDF about...

... the game:

"We saw a very interesting game today, every football fan got their money's worth.

Compliments to the team, they fought really well.

And now the goal is to end the group phase in such a way that we get into the knockout phase."

... Joker Niclas Füllkrug:

"He has ten goals and is the leader in the Bundesliga.

The determination with which he closes gave us strength.

But we can also do the second one, we have to take advantage of the opportunities.

But with self-confidence comes conviction.”

... the performance of the DFB team:

"I'm really proud of what the team has achieved.

Also the reaction to the deficit, that was the mentality.

We played cleverly and with heart and met a team that is top footballing on an equal footing."

... the goal conceded:

"We're a bit too far away, but the shift mustn't happen, we have to close the passing paths .

But a team that also had self-confidence after going 7-0.”

... Leon Goretzka's bad mood after the opening game:

“It's part of the game, Japan was yesterday.

The here and now counted, we gave a good answer.

But we need at least four points to go through to the next round.

... the current status:

"If we take that momentum and focus on the things we're good at, we'll get more confidence.

Then a lot can be possible, but we have to work hard for it.”

Hansi Flick (national coach) after the game on Magenta TV about...

... his feelings after the draw against Spain:

"I'm proud and happy that we came back.

It was an even game.

Compliments to the mentality of the team, we can build on that.

But we've only taken the first step, now we have to take the second.”

... the Joker jug: “

We also lacked determination in the game against Japan.

He did that very well and stole the ball away from Jamal.

I'm very happy for him."

.. the atmosphere in the team:

“I know the team, we get on well together.

She did well today against a great Spanish team.

We stood up to them.

But we should have rewarded ourselves with the 2:1.

There is no consequence.

We had to suffer.

But if we have the chance, then we have to score.”

... the constellation before the Costa Rica game:

“Relatively irrelevant.

We have to win against Costa Rica first.

I trust Luis Enrique that he wants to win the game (against Japan).”

Antonio Rüdiger (defence, DFB team) after the game in the mixed zone over...

… his feelings:

"I'm happy for the team.

Niclas came in, did his job, and kept us alive.

We now need three points on Thursday.”

... the goal conceded:

"Every goal conceded sucks."

… the reaction after conceding:

“We kept going.

The changes were very important today.

Niclas is giving us something up there that we don't have.”

Joshua Kimmich (DFB team) after the game on ZDF about...

… the game and how he feels:

“Fortunately we managed to get the draw.

In terms of feeling, Spain had more of the game.

But we felt we had better chances.

With a bit of luck we can win, but in the end the draw is okay.”

... the performance compared to the Japan game:

"In any case, an increase was noticeable.

The commitment was right.

In terms of play, it was okay at times, but I thought we even had very interesting ball wins.”

Ilkay Gündogan after the game on Magenta TV about...

... the performance and the point win:

"Both decent, with which one can live.

The VAR threw a spanner in the works for us.

It was clear that Spain would have more possession of the ball and that they might also be technically superior.

We had a clear plan to defend.

We had a lot of chances to score, so one point isn't enough."

... Joker Füllkrug:

"You can tell what qualities he has with the goal, you can't score any better.

It was a brutally important goal for us.”

... the last group game:

“We still have everything in our own hands.

Depending on the Spain-Japan game we have to see how many goals we have to score.

But we have the opportunity to progress.”

Thilo Kehrer (defender, DFB team) after the game on Magenta TV about...

... the decisive factor for the point:

"Our goal was three points, that's for sure.

We played very courageously and aggressively, with a lot of intensity.

We could have played a few chances more calmly.

The 1-1 is okay, but the performance was good.”

… the lessons from the game:

“You can take away that we are a very good team in pressing.

We can be a little calmer if we win the ball.

When you win the ball you need a bit of rest to play the last pass, then the chances are even clearer.

We still have room for improvement.”

... the sometimes strange free kicks:

"The Spaniards have a way of defending that is very special.

They stand very high.

The balls were sometimes very good, sometimes the timing was difficult.

We did well, with a bit of luck, Toni's goal won't be offside.

We'll keep at it."

Manuel Neuer (captain, DFB team) after the game over...

… the game today:

“Everything was difficult.

We accepted this fight and allowed little.

Big compliments to our defence.

It was difficult to score against us.

Still, they scored, but it was difficult to defend and we believed in ourselves.

Fulness then came in and scored in the 83rd minute.

The most important thing: We are still alive!”

… the opponent:

“We played against a good team.

They won 7-0 at the start, but you didn't see that on the pitch today."

Hansi Flick (national coach) before the game on ZDF about...

... the first final:

"We all drove here with anticipation, these are the games you wish for.

We want to prove what a good team we are."

... the reasons for Goretzka and Kehrer in the starting eleven:

"We trained the processes, Thilo was convincing in training.

We wanted stability in midfield, Kimmich and Goretzka play together at Bayern, we want to close the headquarters."

... the headquarters with Goretzka and Kimmich:

"Both should contribute their qualities and prevent the two eights (the Spaniard, editor's note) from the flow of the game.

Everything is ultimately one-on-one, we are very similar in the way we want to play football."

.. his expectations:

“Spain have a great team.

We just have to show that we've arrived at the World Cup."

... his team, as he has seen them in the last few hours:

"Very concentrated.

They know exactly what it's about."

"We saw it.

But we focused on the game.”

… Goretzka's personal details:

“We have two sixes and one ten.

Jo (

Kimmich, editor's note

.) and Leon also play it at Bayern Munich.

Gündogan should take care of Busquets."

... the leader Thomas Müller:

"Thomas is a player who can take the others with him.

He is loud and can push the others.”

… the opponent:

“Spain is a team that goes through with their system and game.

We are prepared and hope that we can defend them well.”
