Following the financial streamlining of the handball industry, today (Wednesday) the Handball Association announced the cessation of activities of the youth teams.
In the announcement made by the union's new executive director, Miri Shalu, it was said: "Following the decision made by the management of the handball union at its meeting yesterday, a number of measures were decided on aimed at the economic efficiency of the union, therefore, we would like to bring to your attention that in the coming month (starting from - 1.12.22 and until 31.12.22) there will be a suspension of activity for all the young teams - boys and girls."
"The reserve team, which is preparing for the World Championship qualifiers in January 2023, will continue its activities and the youth team (along with the players from the 2005 yearbook - 12th grades) will continue joint training activities once a week. During the coming month operative decisions will be made to continue the activities. The union is making the best of efforts with the aim of returning to normality as much as possible."
This is not the first time that the association has encountered budgetary difficulties, when just a few months ago, the professional committee of the handball association decided to make a change in the leading professional staff of the national team, and to examine the option of appointing a new national coach.
This follows a financial cut imposed on the union and is due to the reduction of national subsidies.
