Mattia Binotto and Scuderia Ferrari are going their separate ways in Formula 1 in the new year.

As the racing team announced on Tuesday, Binotto will resign from his role as team boss on December 31st.

Formula 1: Ferrari denied rumors two weeks ago

"Regarding speculation in certain media about the position of Scuderia Ferrari team boss Mattia Binotto, Ferrari states that these rumors are completely unfounded," it said at the time.

In less than two weeks, there is now a turnaround.

Binotto is quoted in the statement as follows: "With the associated regret, I have decided to end my collaboration with Ferrari.

I leave a company I love and have been part of for 28 years with the clarity that comes from the belief that I have done everything to achieve the goals set.”

Formula 1: who will succeed Binotto?

Binotto's temporary successor will be Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna.

However, it is expected that Vigna will be replaced in the next few weeks.

Frederic Vasseur from Alfa Romeo is one of the talks as the new Ferrari team boss.

Ross Brawn's name also haunted the Italian daily newspapers on Monday.

At the end of the year, the Briton will retire as head of sports for Formula 1 and was already technical director at the racing team in Maranello during Schumacher's time.

Meanwhile, Mick Schumacher does not have a regular cockpit for the coming season.
