Munich/Doha - There is probably no other duel in the 2022 World Cup with as much political explosiveness as the game between Iran and the USA this Tuesday evening (8 p.m. CET) in the al-Thumama Stadium in Doha.
In the Islamic republic on the Persian Gulf, state authorities have been cracking down on thousands of protesters who have taken to the streets after the death of student Mahsa Amini for weeks.
Prior to this (and independently of this), the United States had put pressure on Iran in terms of global politics and, among other things, warned against developing its own nuclear bomb.
Striking: World Cup host Qatar was recently named an important non-NATO ally by US President Joe Biden.
"Qatar is a good friend," said the 80-year-old prime minister from Washington.

The US base Al Udeid is located almost 30 kilometers from Doha.
According to official information, between 10,000 and 13,000 US soldiers are stationed there, according to the
editorial network Germany (RND)
more than anywhere else in the Middle East.
Iran is considered a mediator between Qatar and the other states on the Arabian Peninsula.
In particular, Saudi Arabia is considered a risk for the emirate.
However, Tehran and the US have viewed each other with geopolitical suspicion for decades.
It's complicated.
There were also tensions leading up to the game.
The US association refrained from showing the emblem of the Islamic Republic on its social media entries.
According to
ESPN
, the US association decided to take the step to support "women fighting for human rights in Iran".

I think education is super important.
After all, you have just educated me by pointing out the incorrect pronunciation of your country.”
If they don't sing anthem in Qatar, will Iran players be threatened with 'torture' of families?
That's not enough polarizing news.
Because: As the US broadcaster CNN reports, the Iranian players in the context of the World Cup (schedule for the 2022 World Cup) are allegedly being threatened by their own government.
Accordingly, the players were summoned to a meeting with the Iranian Revolutionary Guards after they quietly refused to sing the anthem in front of a live audience of millions in the first game.
According to the report, the players were threatened at the meeting that their families at home would face "torture and violence" if they did not sing the anthem again.
Or express political protest in a different way.
