A memorable press conference was held by the US team ahead of Iran's explosive World Cup match against the United States.

Captain Tyler Adams was approached by an Iranian journalist.

Al-Rajjan - A US player made remarkable statements at a memorable press conference ahead of the politically charged World Cup match between the US and Iran.

The USA coach Gregg Berhalter and his captain Tyler Adams tried to focus the press round on sporting issues.

But at the press conference the day before the tricky group duel on Tuesday, the two representatives of the American national soccer team were apparently questioned by reporters from Iran about racism in the USA, visa regulations for Iran and the USA and military matters, among other things.

The final group game of the World Cup at Doha's Al-Thumama Stadium is all about progressing to Group B, and there's plenty of political contention involved.

“We support the people of Iran and the Iranian team.

But we're all focused on the game," said former Leipzig player Tyler Adams.

When an Iranian reporter pointed out in a harsh tone from the press round that he had mispronounced "Iran" ("Airan" instead of "Iran"), the midfielder apologized.

The journalist also wants to know from the captain of the USA how he feels about representing a country where there is discrimination against black people.

Adams then launches into a longer monologue.

Discrimination is everywhere, the 23-year-old begins, adding: "One thing I've learned, especially because I've lived abroad in recent years and had to adapt to different cultures there, is that we USA make progress every day.” Adams has played for Bundesliga club RB Leipzig in the past.

He grew up in a white family, but he's "of course from an African-American background," Adams continued.

"So I have a little bit of culture in me, it's always been really easy for me to navigate different cultures." Not everyone has that ability, Adams said, stressing that "education is super important."

Then he addresses the Iranian reporter directly again and says to him: “You just enlightened me about the pronunciation of your country.

So, yes, it's a process.

I think as long as you see progress, that's the most important thing.” Adams' level-headed response has garnered praise from many online.
