The English team is facing Wales in search of the pass to the round of 16 of the World Cup.

Rashford falla un mano a mano con Ward
Kane, un goleador con último pase. No se está mostrando afinado en el remate en el Mundial, pero juega para los demás como hacía Benzema con Ronaldo en el Madrid. Así, recibe un balón en el centro del campo, se gira y la pone a la carrera de Rashford, que ya encaraba a Ward.
Pero el portero galés, antento, sale muy bien y rápido para cerrar espacios y hacer la portería más pequeña, y detiene el disparo del delantero inglés. Buen comienzo del portero suplente de la selección, toda vez que el títular (Hennessey) está sancionado.

Inglaterra quiere el balón
Gales no es un equipo que se sienta cómodo con la iniciativa. Le gusta defender con un bloque bajo y salir a la contra, buscar las transiciones defensa-ataque con las carreras, sobre todo de Bale. Y el pelotazo directo a Moore para que juegue de espaldas. No cambia su hoja de ruta ante Inglaterra, por más que necesite ganar.
Lo acepta con agrado la selección inglesa, que no le hace ascos a tener la pelota entre los pies, aunque en ocasiones le cueste expresarse con mezclas en campo ajeno. Para eso cuenta con Foden y Bellingham. Eso ocurre en los primeros compases frente a la abigarrada defensa galesa.

Pero había sido un espejismo, claro, y lo descubrieron en el estadio más al norte de Doha, el Al Bayt, construido con la apariencia de una tienda de los nómadas del desierto. No se demoró Inglaterra, que despegó como un tiro en Qatar. Fundió a Irán con una zurra considerable, puño de hierro, palo a palo. De nada la sirvió al conjunto persa un sobrepeso defensivo. De mucho le sirvió a Inglaterra su escuadrón ofensivo. No necesitó jugar, le bastó con atacar. Del resto se encargó el equipo del portugués Carlos Queiroz, sorprendentemente ingenuo para ser el más veterano del torneo. Y no le falta recorrido al propio Queiroz, con cuatro Mundiales en la mochila, a solo uno del récord del brasileño Carlos Alberto Parreira. Como cierre, la enésima estupidez de ese artefacto que es el VAR en manos de quién sabe quién. Para el 6-2, en la última milésima del encuentro, un penalti que fue un diminutivo de penaltito, o menos aún. Delirantes tiempos, tiempos de gloria para el cada vez más copioso pelotón arbitral. Resulta que el sector que debiera ser el más transparente y preciso del tinglado es el más babélico. De traca.

Si Inglaterra gana, pasará como primera de grupo para los octavos de final y se medirá con Senegal, segunda del Grupo A. Pero en caso de perder (por goleada...), podría verse apeada del torneo, pues Irán suma 3 puntos y Estados Unidos -se miden entre ellos-, dos.
