England and the USA are in the World Cup Round of 16.

The »Three Lions« secured first place in Group B with a 3-0 (0-0) win over Wales, the USA defeated Iran 1-0 (1-0) and climbed to second place as a result.

The Americans will meet the Netherlands in the round of 16, while England will face Senegal.

The USA were the dominant team in the first half, but Timothy Weah missed the lead with a header (27th minute) and then with a shot from about ten meters away (33rd).

But the constant pressure from the USA should pay off in the first half.

Weston McKennie played a high ball into the box to Sergiño Dest, who headed it to Christian Pulisic.

The former Dortmunder pushed the ball over the line (38th).

A painful hit, because Pulisic was injured in the stomach, as the US association announced.

Pulisic was initially able to continue playing, but was substituted at half-time.

The ball was back in the goal shortly after the goal, but attacker Weah had started from a narrow offside position before scoring.

The goal didn't count.

In the second half, Iran got into the game better, one goal would be enough for the round of 16.

But despite some promising chances and an injury time of ten minutes, there was no equalization.

The USA also made it to the round of 16 at the 2010 and 2014 World Cups, but the team did not qualify for the 2018 tournament in Russia.

In 2002, the Americans had even reached the quarterfinals.

England played the game as expected, but lacked the pace in the forward movement, as in previous games.

England's Marcus Rashford had the best opportunity, who appeared alone in front of Wales keeper Danny Ward after a pass from Harry Kane, but failed with his lob attempt (10th minute of the game).

Otherwise, not much came from England, and Phil Foden didn't feature in his first starting XI appearance at these finals.

Wales, who desperately needed a goal to advance to the knockout stage, fought back, mainly with fouls in midfield and then suffered a personal setback.

Defender Nico Williams blocked a long-range shot with his head, initially played on, but was then visibly stunned and substituted after a few minutes (35').

The Welsh team couldn't manage more than one shot from Joe Allen, which was clearly too high (45'+5').

Shortly after the start of the second half, the English decided the game with a double strike.

First Rashford converted a direct free kick from around 20 meters (50'), shortly afterwards Foden pushed the ball over the line after a remarkable combination from a short distance (51').

Wales then switched things up a bit, but it was no longer really dangerous without Gareth Bale, who was substituted at half-time.

Rashford made everything clear with his second goal in the 68th minute.
