Argentina and Poland prevailed in the tight group C.

After the 2-0 win for the Albiceleste, Lewandowski and Co. had to tremble for a long time to reach the round of 16.

  • World Cup 2022, Group C: Poland - Argentina 0:2 (0:0)

  • Argentina and Poland are in the

    round

of 16 of the World Cup.

  • Since Mexico only won 2-1 in the parallel game, the Poles were allowed to celebrate in the end.

Update, 9:58 p.m .:

Collective cheers in Doha!

Saudi Arabia scored the 1-2 goal, but Mexico would still be through with a 3-1.

But that doesn't happen anymore and Poland is also further along.

Lewandowski's team is in the round of 16 and meets defending champions France.

WHISTLE: Argentina are top of their group in the round of 16 and meet Australia.

However, the Poles still have to tremble, all eyes are on the game between Mexico and Saudi Arabia.

World Cup 2022: Poland – Argentina 0: 2 (0: 0)

Lineup Poland: Szczesny - Cash, Glik, Kiwior, Bereszynski (Jedrzejczyk 73) - Bielik (Szymanski 62), Krychowiak (Piatek 83) - Zielinski, Swiderski (Kaminski 46) , Frankowski (Skoras 46) - Lewandowski

Lineup Argentina: Martinez - Molina, Romero, Otamendi, Acuna (59th Tagliafico) - Fernandez (79th Pezzella), De Paul, Mac Allister (84th Almada) - Alvarez (79th L. Martinez), Messi, Di Maria ( 59. Paredes)

Goals: Mac Allister (46') Alvarez (67')

90th minute + 6:

Lewandowski and Messi now meet in a duel, at the end of which there is a free kick for Argentina.

Messi doesn't want to accept Lewy's apology after the foul.

90 minutes + 4:

And almost 3-0 for Argentina!

Szczesny is already beaten after a Tagliafico lob, but Kiwior saves from the line!

This goal would have meant the end of the World Cup.

Poland vs Argentina: One goal could turn the game around

90 minutes + 1:

There are still six minutes on top of that.

89 minutes:

One minute is still played regularly.

Should this result remain, both Poland and Argentina would be through.

Mexico, on the other hand, is missing a goal for the round of 16...

86 minutes:

Kiwior makes a blunder in front of his own penalty area and Lionel Messi runs away.

But in the one-on-one with Szczesny, the PSG star doesn't stay cool enough and pushes the ball past the goal.

If that had gone in, Mexico would now be in second place, edging out Poland.

82 minutes:

Eight minutes left on the clock.

Any goal could be decisive here.

78 minutes:

Argentina make a change, Julian Alvarez comes off the field for Lautaro Martinez.

Enzo Fernandez replaces German Pezzella

72 minutes:

Now the chance for the third goal!

Messi checks Szczesny for another pass into the backcourt, but the Juve keeper deflects the ball with his leg.

Poland vs Argentina: Alvarez scores a goal

70 minutes:

As of now, Poland and Mexico are tied on points and goals.

Even in a direct comparison there is no winner here after the 0-0 draw on the first day of the game.

If it stays that way, the fair play rating would decide.

The Poles are in the lead here due to fewer yellow cards.

67 minutes: After a nice combination, Enzo Fernandez finds Julian Alvarez, who cleverly turns in the penalty area and welds the ball under the bar, making it impossible for Szczesny to stop.

A strong goal from the Manchester City striker.

65 minutes:

The Argentines don't give up and even let the ball run after corner kicks.

The Poles have no access to the game even with 25 minutes to go.

61 minutes:

Mac Allister finishes in the penalty area again, but Szczesny is on guard and saves the low shot.

The Argentines remain true to their line and play attractively up front.

57 minutes:

It's getting more and more exciting because the Mexicans are now 2-0 up against Saudi Arabia.

The Poles are still in second place, but the ice is getting thinner.

56 minutes:

The Argentines do their thing and, like in the first half, get stuck in the opposing half.

Messi lays down one of the attacks in the penalty area for Alvarez, who tries to turn, but the Man City player's shot is blocked.

Poland vs Argentina: Mac Allister with the first goal of the game

52 minutes:

In the parallel game, Mexico took a 1-0 lead, putting the Central Americans level on points with Poland.

Due to the goal difference, however, the Poles would be further.

Argentina are sure to be in the knockout stages with a win.

47 minutes: And there is the opening goal for Argentina!

A strongly played situation: Molina puts the ball in front of the goal and finds Mac Allister in the backcourt.

The Brighton professional shoved the ball over the inside of the post and the celebrations in Doha knew no bounds.

46 minutes:

The game continues at Stadium 974 in Doha.

The Poles change twice in the second half.

Skoras and the Wolfsburg Kaminski now come into the game.

Poland vs Argentina: Goalless at half-time

HALF TIME:

After 45 minutes it is 0-0 between Poland and Argentina.

Both teams would be through as of now as Saudi Arabia and Mexico are also goalless at the break.

The Poles would certainly be through with a draw, but this is shaky given the many chances for Argentina.

It might be a game of patience for the aggressive South Americans.

45th minute + 2:

With 13:2 shots on goal, Argentina will go into the break straight away, Poland's keeper Szczesny was able to defuse eight attempts.

43 minutes:

The audience reacts to the missed shot by shouting "Messi, Messi".

The Argentines absorb the shock quickly and are moving forward again.

After a shot, Szczesny makes a save just in front of De Paul, but the Argentine is a bit surprised by his sudden scoring opportunity and fails to capitalize.

39 minutes: Messi steps in... and misses!

Szczesny guesses the corner, jumps to the left and fishes the ball out.

What a parade of Poles!

38 minutes: After Alvarez's shot there was a possible foul, Szczesny hit Messi lightly in the face.

Referee Makkelie checks the scene for a penalty - and actually gives it!

That penalty is by no means one to give.

37 minutes:

After a blocked Albiceleste cross, there is the next corner.

This time the South Americans play them briefly, after a pass from Messi, Fernandez tries it, but his shot goes well over.

Shortly thereafter, Alvarez gets the chance after a fine pass from Mac Allister - and again Szczesny holds in a one-on-one.

Poland vs Argentina live today: Szczesny makes a strong save against di Maria

34 minutes:

Di Maria almost twists a corner kick from his Juventus team-mate Szczesny right into the net, but the Polish keeper was careful and just managed to steer the ball over the bar.

The next corner from the left brings nothing in the episode.

32 minutes:

Lewandowski still has no connection to his teammates.

The striker loses the ball with almost every action because he lacks the passing stations and Argentina defends poisonously.

30 minutes:

The Argentines again, this time with a double chance!

A clean combination frees Alvarez, but his shot is still blocked.

Acuna shoots from the back, but his powerful shot doesn't bring the lead he was hoping for, but goes a meter wide.

27 minutes:

Otamendi steals the ball from Lewandowski when he almost gets the chance to go it alone.

Well taken care of by the Argentine defender.

23 minutes:

The corner kick brings nothing, with the Poles there is still not much going on in terms of play.

The Argentinians, on the other hand, also get a corner, di Maria had won it with a dribble.

Poland vs Argentina live today - nothing to see from Lewandowski yet

21 minutes:

The Poles don't make much of their rare ball possession phases.

At least Cash gets the first corner.

17 minutes:

And again the Albiceleste!

Left-back Acuna tries it directly after a nice high pass and misses the goal by a wide margin.

But the direction is right.

15 minutes:

The first quarter of an hour clearly belongs to the Argentines, who have already scored two goals.

Nothing has come from the Poles yet, Czeslaw Michniewicz's team is too busy defending.

11 minutes:

And again Messi closes!

But the angle is a little too sharp for the Argentinian superstar, but his shot from the near corner is defused by Szczesny.

Poland vs Argentina: Szczesny saves Messi's first shot on goal

7 minutes:

Lionel Messi scores the first shot on goal of the game, but Szczesny has no problem with the PSG star's feeble attempt.

6 minutes:

The Poles also appear in the opposing half in the opening minutes, but without becoming dangerous.

3rd minute:

After three minutes, the first exclamation mark.

Otamendi climbs up on a cross in front of goal and pushes defender Glik down.

Referee Danny Makkelie decides on offensive foul.

1st minute:

Let's go in Doha.

Who will face France and Australia in the round of 16?

Both teams will provide the answer in the next 90 minutes.

The first duel dates from the Olympic group phase in 1960, when the South Americans won 2-0.

Poland vs Argentina live today: who will now face France and Australia

Update from November 30, 6:31 p.m.:

The constellation in World Cup Group C is very exciting before the last matchday.

All four teams can still progress, the best cards currently have the leaders Poland.

After the last two games in Group D, the opponents have now been determined.

The group winner meets the surprise team Australia, who defeated the 2021 European Championship semi-finalists Denmark.

The group runners-up will face defending champions France.

Update from November 30, 5:59 p.m.:

In two hours, Poland and Argentina will face each other in a real game of fate.

Both national teams can make it through to the round of 16 on their own, but the World Cup tournament can also end tonight for both.

First report from November 30th:

Doha – On Wednesday evening the biggest duel between two world stars will rise.

On the one hand, the unfinished Argentinian Lionel Messi is working on his first World Cup title, on the other hand, striker Robert Lewandowski wants to lead his Poles to the knockout phase.

But for both stars, the World Cup tournament could already end tonight.

World Cup 2022: Poland with a draw against Argentina safe in the round of 16

After the first two match days, there is an exciting constellation in Group C, which allows all four teams to make it into the round of 16.

For the Poles, who already have four points, a draw against Argentina is enough to ensure they reach the round of 16. Even with a defeat with a maximum difference of two goals, Lewy and Co. would progress, then the parallel game between Saudi would have to -Arabia and Mexico (live ticker at tz.de) end in a draw.

Even with a three-goal difference, Poland could lose and would progress if Saudi Arabia and Mexico were drawn, but the central Europeans would need to score more or equal Saudi Arabia's goals for that to happen.

Should Poland lose and Mexico win but not have a better goal difference, Lewandowski and his team would also be through.

If the goal difference is the same, the fair play rating would decide first and then the drawing of lots.

World Cup 2022: Poland vs Argentina live today – draw possible

In fact, the draw tonight is not unlikely.

Should Poland and Mexico win 2-0 today and Poland see two yellow cards, Poland and Mexico would be tied on points and goals in 2nd and 3rd place.

Even the direct comparison, a 0:0, would not determine a winner.

Poland would - as of now - do better than the Mexicans (-6 points) in the fair play rating with -4 points.

World Cup 2022: Argentina should win – otherwise Messi and Co. will have to tremble

Messi and his Argentines have everything in their own hands.

In the event of a three-pointer, they could certainly plan for the round of 16, in the event of a draw, Saudi Arabia and Mexico would have to play a draw.

Should Mexico win by a maximum of two goals, a point sharing would also suffice.

But then the Poles would be out.

Should Mexico win by three goals or more and Argentina draw, it would again be a matter of goals scored.
