In a battle between two of the leading candidates for the title of MVP, Luka Doncic overcame Stephen Curry, and thus the Mavericks broke a streak of four losses - the longest under C. Jason Kidd.
Luca was again brilliant with his fifth triple double of the season - 41 points, 12 rebounds, 12 assists and 4 steals, but the hero of the evening was actually Tim Hardaway, who started the season in a bad way but finally recovered with 22 points and three crucial clutch.
Trailing by 2 points, the champions had a chance to win or send the game to overtime, but Kerry made strides, and on the ensuing drive, Klay Thompson missed the last desperate attempt.
Steph finished with 32 points for the guest, Jonathan Cominga added 14 and 11 rebounds and Thompson again disappointed with 5.
Detroit (18:5) - New York (11:10) 140:110
Offensive performance by the Knicks, who scored 40 points in the first quarter and never looked back, against a team they haven't lost to since January 2020. Julius Randle won the concert on his 28th birthday with 36 points, three players finished with 16 - Quintin Grimes, R Jay Barrett and Jaylen Branson.
Isaiah Stewart scored 19 for the weak Pistons, still without the injured Cade Cunningham.
