Skier hits his head on the slope at 115 km/h and now shows his face

Skier Mauro Caviezel involuntarily dipped his face in snow at the Super-G in Lake Louise and now he looks like this.

Skier Mauro Caviezel fell badly during the Super-G race in Lake Louise.

Now he shows his wounded face.

Lake Louise - While most of the world is talking about the soccer World Cup and the negative connotations of the controversial tournament in Qatar, winter sports are of course still taking place.

Fortunately, the athletes didn't leave their skis in the shed, but are chasing points.

In Lake Louise, Canada, the men were at the start, a Swiss rider had to suffer as a result.

Mauro Caviezel, the 34-year-old speed specialist, fell in Sunday's World Cup race, hitting his head on the icy track and crashing into the safety nets.

Shortly before, the speed measurement had shown 115 kilometers per hour.

Caviezel was only able to get up again after about ten minutes.

A rescue helicopter finally transported the Swiss, who was bleeding from the face.

The race was interrupted for several minutes. 

For the Swiss, it was not the first serious accident in his alpine career.

In 2021, Caviezel suffered a traumatic brain injury during a training crash in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, the consequences of which still concern him to this day.

Only on Friday did the veteran contest his first World Cup race since the World Cup in February 2021.

And then, of all things, this fall followed.

The Swiss caused a few smiles with his own irony.

On Tuesday, two days after the fall, the Swiss showed his face on social media.

Taking to Instagram, he wrote: "Not the comeback 'face' I was hoping for...thank you so much for all the messages and well wishes - I'll be beautiful again."

Thanks to the entire ski family for the warm welcome back.” He symbolically takes off his hat with the emojis for his colleagues Marco Odermatt, Aleksander Aamodt Kilde and Matthias Mayer, who took the first three places.

Under the Instagram post, of course, further wishes for improvement were attached.

Odermatt or teammate Beat Feuz, as well as the Swiss cross-country hero Dario Cologna left their warm words.

Alexis Pinturault, Nina O'Brien and Christof Innerhofer are just a few examples of the international skiers who are keeping their fingers crossed for the 34-year-old's recovery.

Ski Olympic champion Sara Hector from Sweden recently spoke about a family stroke of fate.

Her mother has ALS and the athlete is raising money for her.
