World Cup: Nuno Mendes, injured, uncertain for the rest of the competition

The Portuguese left side suffers from a thigh tear. He will miss, at least, the last group match against South Korea

The images of his exit Monday evening, during the first period of the match against Uruguay, did not bode well.

Out in tears in the 42nd minute after feeling pain in his thigh, Nuno Mendes will not wear the Portugal jersey immediately, as expected.

According to the Portuguese press, the left side of PSG is already forfeited for his team's third match against South Korea on Friday afternoon (4 p.m.).

And the news on his physical condition is not very reassuring since Nuno Mendes would suffer from the same injury which had kept him sidelined for three weeks in October with the Parisian club.

The 20-year-old Portuguese suffered a hamstring injury during a match against Benfica in the Champions League.

The duration of his unavailability has not been communicated by the medical staff of the Seleçao but, given the nature of this injury, his participation following the World Cup seems compromised, while his selection is qualified for the 8th finals.

Already absent during the first meeting against Ghana due to muscle fatigue, Nuno Mendes had only completed one training session before returning to the field on Monday against Uruguay.

A quick and too sudden return to competition given his state of form.

PSG's Portuguese Players' World Cup is proving more than tricky for now.

Danilo Pereira, holder against Ghana but at fault on an opposing goal, is also in the infirmary due to a broken rib.

His return could take place during the round of 16, even if the doubt still remains.

The last Parisian called up for this World Cup in Qatar, midfielder Vitinha, remained on the bench during the first two meetings.

He could benefit from a few minutes against South Korea.
