After the 2022 World Cup is before the 2026 World Cup. The next football finals could hardly differ from the current one in Qatar.

In 2026 it will be that time again.

After the 2022 Winter World Cup in Qatar, three and a half years later, the world's largest sporting event will again traditionally take place in summer.

And otherwise the differences between the two world championships could hardly be greater.

While the 2022 World Cup will take place in tranquil Qatar, in 2026 three countries will be the venues for the next World Cup.

The finals will take place in the USA, Canada and Mexico.

And otherwise, the 2026 World Cup will be held in a much larger environment than it is now.

If there are only eight World Cup stadiums in Qatar, there should be 16 venues in 2026.

In Canada, it is played in Toronto and Vancouver, in Mexico in Guadalupe, Mexico City and Zapopan and in the USA in a total of eleven cities.

World Cup 2026: New mode with more teams

The field of participants will also be larger in 2026.

The World Cup in Canada, the USA and Mexico will be the first final tournament in which a total of 48 countries will take part.

In Qatar there are still 32 nations.

Accordingly, there will also be a new mode in 2026.

From the next World Cup, there will no longer be eight groups of four teams each, but a total of 16 groups of three countries each.

The two best runners-up then qualify for the sixteenth final.

This does not yet exist at the World Cup in Qatar.

The new mode means there will be more games overall, but the number of games for the countries will remain the same as there will only be two group games.

Incidentally, the USA, Canada and Mexico prevailed against Morocco in the election to host the World Cup with 134:65 votes.

European and Asian countries were not allowed due to the 2018 World Cup in Russia and 2022 in Qatar.

Before the 2026 World Cup, the German national team, which is fighting for a place in the round of 16 on Thursday, will still have to play the 2024 European Championship.

And that is of great importance from a German point of view, since the European Championship will be held in Germany.

The opening game will take place in the Allianz Arena in Munich.
