"10 million tickets is more than the previous Olympic Games": the Paris 2024 ticket office is open

2022-12-01T12:14:02.084Z

Étienne Thobois, Managing Director of the Organizing Committee, recalls the rules for obtaining tickets to attend the 2024 Games.

Ticketing for the 2024 Olympics is officially open!

You have until January 31 to register on the tickets.paris2024.org platform and take part in the lottery to win purchase slots.

The packs will be available from February 15 to March 15, 2023, dry tickets in May.

What are the ticketing challenges for Paris 2024?

Etienne THOBOIS.

The first is financial, we have set ourselves the objective of selling 3 million tickets during this first phase of sales

(in total, Paris 2024 hopes to garner 1.2 billion euros in revenue thanks to ticketing)

.

It will also be an opportunity for us to learn about the profile of people interested in 2024: what events interest them, how many places they buy, do they come alone or with their families.

Finally, we will see how the French public mobilizes because we want the stadiums to be blue – white – red.

Blue – white – red stadiums, despite everything this platform is open to the whole world…

This is a new system desired by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

Until now, the ticketing functioned via distributors, who had exclusivity in a territory.

These distributors did what they wanted, reserved a quota of dry tickets and kept those with high added value to accompany them with accommodation or transport.

This gave expensive things and the organizing committees were very dependent on these intermediaries.

Digitization allows us to overhaul the system.

We now have a single distributor for hospitality (

On Location

) and a single distributor, the organizing committee, for single ticketing.

Won't the French feel aggrieved?

There is no reason for them to be harmed.

A number of devices allow us to secure tickets for the French.

Club Paris 2024 members will have a special time slot to buy tickets since the first 4 days

(from February 15 to 18, 2023)

will be reserved for them.

However, 90% of club members are French.

We also have a regional ticket office, made available to groups and the State

(500,000 Olympic Games tickets, 500,000 Paralympic Games tickets)

to accompany programs.

A phase will then be reserved for the Terre de jeux territories.

But from this first phase, we count on the mobilization of the French so that they are present in all the sites.

3 million tickets will be offered in the form of packs, during the first sales phase (February 15 to March 15, 2023).

What will be the next steps?

3 million tickets is a significant part and that is the objective we have set ourselves.

Then, in May, there will be a 2nd phase, with another draw

(to win your purchase slot, with registrations between March 15 and April 21, 2023)

.

This time it will be single tickets and we will be selling all the sessions, including the finals and the opening ceremony.

Then, the ticket office that will remain will be available in real time on the platform.

Many French people want to see the Olympic Games.

Will there be many disappointed?

In any case, there will be a large number of happy people!

We have a ticketing offer of around 10 million, that's more than the previous Games.

In London, in 2012, there were around 8 million tickets.

There are many sessions, many different sports.

For some sports, there will be more requests than offers.

We opted for a draw to allocate slots so that it is less deceptive.

With the old system, we had to position ourselves on packs that we weren't sure of getting.

People tended to ask the same thing.

This was a lot of disappointed because those who were not drawn could not refer to something else.

The new time slot system allows for real-time purchases.

We do not queue and make a tailor-made program.
