And that after a strong start to the season: Simon Jocher from SC Garmisch is injured in downhill training at Beaver Creek and will probably be out for a long time.

Beaver Creek – Bitter news for Simon Jocher: The speed driver from SC Garmisch fell heavily during the first downhill training before the World Cup races in Beaver Creek (USA) and will probably have to take a break for several weeks.

After his fall, the 26-year-old was taken off the track by first responders and continued to the Steadman Clinic in Vail.

In the hospital, after an initial examination, the doctors diagnosed a concussion and a lung and rib contusion.

Jocher stayed overnight at the Steadman Clinic for observation and will return to Germany in the next few days for further medical checks.

National coach Schwaiger: "Bitter for the entire team."

“Simon's absence due to injury is bitter for the whole team.

He performed very well in the first speed races and will be missed by the team," Christian Schwaiger, national coach for alpine men, is quoted as saying in a press release from the German Ski Association.

Jocher had a strong start to the season.

Last weekend he had initially secured 17th place in the downhill in Lake Louis.

The next day he finished 14th in the Super G and thus already had half the norm for the Ski World Championships in February in Courchevel (France) in his pocket.

"We all wish Simon a speedy recovery and hope that he can join us again as soon as possible," emphasized Schwaiger.

Now the Werdenfelser Land will only be represented at the World Cup in Beaver Creek - two downhill races on Friday and Saturday and a Super G on Sunday - only Thomas Dreßen (SC Mittenwald) and Luis Vogt (SC Garmisch).

Dreßen was 58th in the first downhill training, Vogt followed in 72nd place.
