With two places in the top 20, Simon Jocher had made a splendid start to the World Cup.

But now the Schongauer has to take a forced break.

Schongau

– Bitter news for Simon Jocher: The Schongauer speed driver in the service of SC Garmisch fell heavily during the first downhill training before the World Cup races in Beaver Creek (USA) and will probably have to take a break for several weeks.

Jocher stays overnight at the clinic in Vail for observation

After his fall, the 26-year-old was taken off the track by first responders and continued to the Steadman Clinic in Vail.

After an initial examination, the doctors in the hospital diagnosed a concussion and a lung and rib contusion.

Jocher stayed in the clinic overnight for observation and will return to Germany in the next few days for further medical examinations.

Places 17 and 14 in the first World Cup speed races in Lake Louise

“Simon's absence due to injury is bitter for the whole team.

He performed very well in the first speed races and will be missed by the team," Christian Schwaiger, national coach for alpine men, is quoted as saying in a press release from the German Ski Association.

Jocher had a strong start to the season.

Last weekend he had initially secured 17th place in the downhill in Lake Louise.

The next day he finished 14th in the Super-G and thus already had half the norm for the Ski World Championships next February in Courchevel (France) in his pocket.

"We all wish Simon a speedy recovery and hope that he can join us again as soon as possible," emphasized Schwaiger.
