It's a fiasco: Germany, a self-declared co-favourite, fails in the preliminary round of the 2022 World Cup. In the end, a win against Costa Rica is not enough.

The game in the ticker to read.

  • World Cup 2022: Costa Rica – Germany 2: 4 (0: 1)

  • Victory in Qatar is not enough for the DFB team: Japan and Spain advance to the round of 16.

  • This live ticker is continuously updated

Conclusion:

The German national soccer team missed the round of 16 at the World Cup in Qatar, just as they did four years ago at the tournament in Russia.

A 4-2 (1-0) win against Costa Rica on Thursday evening in Al-Khour was not enough for the DFB team to reach the knockout stage.

In the parallel game, Japan won 2-1 (0-1) against Spain and secured first place in Group E ahead of the Iberians.

Germany finished third ahead of Costa Rica and stuck in the group stage just like in 2018.

Serge Gnabry (10th minute) gave the German team an early lead.

Yeltsin Tejeda (58th) and Juan Vargas (70th) turned the game around in the meantime.

Kai Havertz (73/84.) with a brace and Niclas Füllkrug (89.) ensured a German victory, but in the end it was of no use.

Costa Rica 2-4 Germany (0-1)

Lineup Costa Rica:

Navas - O. Duarte, Waston, Vargas - Fuller (74th Bennette), Borges, Tejeda (90th + 3 Wilson), Oviedo (90th + 3 Contreras), Aguilera (46th Salas), Campbell - Venegas (74th matarrita)

Lineup Germany:

Neuer - Kimmich, Süle (90th + 3 Ginter), Rüdiger, Raum (66th Havertz) - Gündogan (54th filling jug), Goretzka (46th Klostermann) - Gnabry, Musiala, Sané - Müller (67th Götze)

Gates:

0: 1 Gnabry (10th), 1: 1 Tejeda (58th), 2: 1 Vargas (70th), 2: 2 Havertz (73rd), 2: 3 Havertz (85th), 2: 4 filling jug ( 89.)

Victory in Qatar is not enough for the DFB team: Japan and Spain advance to the round of 16.

90 minutes + 10: The game is over!

And Germany is out of the World Cup!

This is another debacle for German football.

90 minutes + 8: Bitter!

Bitter!

Bitter!

Bitter!

The parallel game is over.

Japan wins against Spain, both teams are in the round of 16.

The DFB team is eliminated again after the preliminary round.

Germany fails again: Thomas Müller hints at resignation after the World Cup

90 minutes + 7: The huge chance for Musiala!

Salas just pokes the ball off Munich's foot.

The Bayern star probably missed his first World Cup goal.

90th minute + 3: Change in Germany:

Ginter is allowed to play for xx in the final minutes.

It's ten minutes of stoppage time.

90 minutes + 3: Havertz reappears in front of Navas.

The PSG goalie boldly throws the ball away.

In the parallel game, the Spaniards are running against Japan.

It's 2-1 for the Asians.

That would put Germany out.

90 minutes: In the parallel game there are seven minutes of added time.

Germany needs Spain's equalizer against Japan.

World Cup thriller in Qatar: Thanks to Havertz, Germany beats Costa Rica

89 minutes: Goooooorrrrr!!!

Costa Rica - Germany 2:4, scorer: jug.

Important!

"Gap" strikes again.

Diagonal ball to the other wing.

Sané can cross uncovered.

In the middle, Füllkrug stole away from his guard and steered the ball into the net in Gerd Müller-style.

The "real nine" is where it needs to be.

88 minutes: Germany is now trying patiently.

All men stand in half of Costa Ricans.

Here and now the mega embarrassment threatens!

Is anything else possible?

85 minutes: Goooooorrrrr!!!

Costa Rica 2-3 Germany, goalscorer: Havertz.

Goal, goal, goal!

Now one thing is missing and the DFB team would have done its part.

Spain is still behind against Japan.

The Londoner is callous in front of the box and scores a brace in less than 20 minutes.

84 minutes: Musiala hits the ball over it.

Why isn't he playing there?

Havertz stood in front of the gate.

Munich may take too many shots.

The DFB team is about to end the World Cup.

83 minutes: Klostermann looks uncertain and simply allows himself to be overrun.

That's not enough, that's just way too little.

81 minutes: Germany runs, but seems nervous.

If Costa Rica scores, the Central Americans would be through.

78 minutes: Gnabry counters, but is straddled on the baseline.

The following corner brings nothing.

Is that exciting!

76 minutes: filling jug!!!!

That can not be true!

Musiala sends Sané, who crosses in front of the goal.

Füllkrug hits the second post but is denied by Navas from close range.

A Monster Parade!

Mega thriller at the 2022 World Cup: Germany equalizes again against Costa Rica

73 minutes: Goooooorrrrr!!!

Costa Rica 2-2 Germany, goalscorer: Havertz.

Important, very important!

Finally a reasonable attack again.

Füllkrug cunningly puts through for Havertz, who crosses and finishes dry.

The DFB team now needs two goals and Spain's equalizer against Japan.

70 minutes: Goal!

Costa Rica 2-1 Germany, goalscorer: Vargas.

My dear!

This is bad!

The ball is carried up to the six-yard box.

In the German defense there is complete confusion.

Nobody has the overview.

Vargas is half in the air, Neuer can not access.

The ball rolls into the goal from the right leg of the DFB goalkeeper.

67 minutes: Boom!

Musiala blocks the ball against the right post.

Centimeters, only centimeters are missing.

66 minutes: Germany make a double change:

Götze comes on for Müller, Havertz for Raum.

62 minutes: And another great chance!

The ball has to be in the box now.

Sharp ball from the right.

Rüdiger is on the first post, but steers the ball wide.

61 minutes: Huge chance for Germany!

Musiala flicks the ball to the inside of the post.

The DFB team absolutely needs a goal.

Is that exciting!

58 minutes: Goal!

Costa Rica 1-1 Germany, goalscorer: Tejeda.

The compensation!

Insanity!

The DFB team is reeling.

My dear!

Right-back Fuller can simply cross from the right.

Campbell heads in from close range.

Neuer parried splendidly, but forward.

The German defense is completely asleep.

Tejeda switches the fastest and nails the ball in.

54 minutes: Change in Germany:

"Gap" comes.

Flick replaces Gündogan with Füllkrug.

Germany threatens to end the preliminary round: Japan takes the lead against Spain

54 minutes: Now it's getting really exciting!

Japan leads against Spain.

That would put the Japanese first and the Spanish second.

And Germany would be out of the tournament.

52 minutes: Fuller gets stuck with a shot in the defensive bulwark.

The German team should now make every effort to play forward again.

51 minutes: Now it's getting tight!

Japan equalized against Spain.

Germany now urgently needs a second goal, otherwise it was the round of 16.

49 minutes: Musiala again gets caught in a dribble in the Costa Rican defence.

Munich still lacks "the target water", as ARD expert Schweinsteiger called it at half-time.

46 minutes: Change in Germany:

Goretzka stays in the dressing room.

According to ARD, he has knee problems.

Klostermann comes into the game and moves to the back right.

Kimmich pushes into defensive midfield.

46 minutes: The second half continues!

The DFB team needs a win.

Germany leads at half-time, but Costa Rica is still in the game

45th minute + 1: Half time in Qatar!

Germany goes into the dressing room with a narrow lead.

45 minutes: Sané!

The winger hammers the ball onto the upper tier.

The DFB team is now lacking determination.

44 minutes: Süle's next uncertainty in defence.

Dortmund's Süle swings over the ball. Germany brings Costa Rica back into play just before the break.

Raum and Rüdiger misjudge: Neuer holds the zero against Costa Rica

43 minutes: Uiuiuiuiuiui … that was close!

Rüdiger and Raum both misjudge after a high ball. Fuller can pull away before Neuer, but the FCB goalie deflects the ball over the crossbar in the best manner.

Caution!

42 minutes: Germany makes it too complicated.

This time the referee team indicates an offside, which was not.

40 minutes: Gnabry!

An excellent shot.

The Swabian in the service of Bayern twirls the ball around the right post.

There was not much missing to the next German goal.

38 minutes: Musialaaaaaaa!

My dear!

Perfect ball transfer.

The Munich player leaves two opponents standing like extras, but maneuvers the ball in the box next to the right post.

Then he can make it 2-0.

And that must be the second penalty for Germany.

A Costa Rican tackles Musiala from behind and hits him clearly in the foot.

35 minutes: Spain continues to lead 1-0 against Japan.

If the Asians won, Germany would only be enough for the World Cup round of 16 with an 8-0 lead.

So far everything is going well for the 2014 World Champion.

32nd minute: Leipzig's space in particular makes a lot of tempo and takes a few actions.

The left-back is good in the game.

Chance for Costa Rica: Campbell cannot provide space in the German penalty area

29 minutes: Dangerous!

Costa Rica comes in front of the German goal for the first time.

After a cross from the left, Campbell just misses the ball.

Space can't put him at the six-yard box.

26 minutes: It's a game on goal.

Very little comes from Costa Rica.

No team that dares to reach the round of 16 plays like this.

Bayern star for Germany: Jamal Musiala (Mid.).

23 minutes: Musiala apparently took a hit, isn't running smoothly and has to stretch.

The Munich shooting star can continue.

Referee does not see a clear penalty: Rüdiger is knocked over the penalty area

21st Minute: Uhhhhhhh … referee Frappart does not see a clear penalty.

Reals Rüdiger is literally knocked over in the penalty area with a standard.

20 minutes: Müller is almost through.

The Bayern star is blocked by Waston in the penalty area.

The Raumdeuter from Upper Bavaria is the desired asset in front of the goal.

19 minutes: Costa Rica can break away from the storm and urge.

However, the French referee does not see a clear corner for Germany.

15 minutes: Next top chance for the DFB team!

This time Müller crosses from the right to the second post.

His Munich colleague Goretzka climbs up and checks Navas from a very short distance.

It's only thanks to the goalkeeper that the Central Americans see it 0-1 here.

Germany is pushing for the second goal.

13 minutes: Costa Rica pulls back despite being behind.

In the parallel game, Spain took a 1-0 lead against Japan.

This would put Germany in second place in the round of 16 of the 2022 World Cup. But there is still a long way to go.

World Cup goalscorer against Qatar: Bayern's Serge Gnabry (Mi.).

Early lead for the DFB team: Sensationally well-played goal by Serge Gnabry

10 minutes: Goooooorrrrr!!!

Costa Rica 0-1 Germany, goalscorer: Gnabry.

Sensationally well played goal!

Musiala stages the Leipzig area on the left, which chips the ball in front of the six-yard box with excellent timing.

Gnabry gets the ball perfectly served on his head and lets the ball stroke his forehead into the far corner.

9 minutes: Müller!!!

Buttery cross from Kimmich from the right.

The world champion tries a diving header, but ultimately puts the ball well past the right-left post.

8 minutes: madness!

Musiala dribbles through the entire penalty area.

The Munich missed the conclusion.

There was more in it, much more.

5 minutes: Offside!

Musiala sticks through for Gnabry, who shoots Navas from close range.

The Swabian was clearly offside.

Germany is really good at the game.

3 minutes: Huge chance for the DFB team!

Musiala takes the ball, marches down the sixteen and then draws.

It's a treacherous flutter ball that keeper Navas can steer around the post.

2 minutes: Germany begins cautiously, takes many passes for ball safety.

1st minute: Let's start with Germany's World Cup game!

Ready: fans of the German national team in Qatar.

Update from December 1, 7.50 p.m .:

The tension is rising: Germany is about to play Costa Rica in the round of 16.

Don't miss anything here!

Update from December 1st, 7.40 p.m .:

ARD is discussing whether Niclas Füllkrug should have been in Germany’s starting XI.

The attacker from Werder Bremen had previously said in an interview that he basically wanted a place in the starting line-up.

The brawny striker has already scored two goals in three international matches and 76 minutes.

"We will still need him.

I think he will still play a role," says expert Thomas Hitzlsperger about the 29-year-old from Lower Saxony.

Bastian Schweinsteiger warns against Joel Campbell: Costa Rica's attacker stormed for Arsenal

Update from December 1st, 7.40 p.m .:

ARD expert Bastian Schweinsteiger warns of striker Joel Campbell.

"He's dangerous, he can score a goal," says the world champion of the 30-year-old attacker, who used to play for Arsenal FC, Villarreal FC, Olympiacos Piraeus and Betis Sevilla.

Update from December 1, 7:25 p.m .:

Costa Rica is expected with a compact chain of five, densely staggered and deep in their own half.

To compare the magnitudes: Some players in the Central American squad have a market value that is similar to that of a third-division professional in Germany.

Their superstar is, of course, PSG goalkeeper Keylor Navas.

Müller storms instead of a filling jug: national coach Flick justifies the decision

Update from December 1, 7:15 p.m .:

National coach Hansi Flick is on the microphone at ARD.

"I'm not nervous.

We did everything in advance.

My team did an excellent job," explains Flick: "A World Cup is just great, that's why you started the job."

He talks about the formation of Germany.

“One position was open for a long time, the one at the front.

Thomas (Müller) has great qualities through his experience and as an organizer.

He made an unbelievable amount of meters against Spain," he says: "Thomas is someone who pushes the team."

Update from December 1, 6:50 p.m .:

DFB manager Oliver Bierhoff explains in the ARD interview why Niclas Füllkrug is not allowed to storm from the start.

"It was a difficult decision for the coaches because Niclas had such a great start.

But of course Thomas is an incredibly experienced player,” said the 1996 European champion about Munich’s Müller.

Lineup of the DFB team: Kimmich as a right-back, jug on the bench

Update from December 1st, 6:43 p.m .:

The list of the German team is there.

Füllkrug sits on the bench, takes on the joker role again.

Apparently, Flick sets up Bayern's Kimmich as a right-back.

Because: Goretzka and Gündogan both start.

Leroy Sané, Thomas Müller, Jamal Musiala and Serge Gnabry also start.

This means that all six Munich players from the World Cup squad are on the field.

Update from December 1st, 6:38 p.m.:

Costa Rica against Germany: The game is played today in the al-Bayt Stadium in the Qatari port city of al-Khour.

The World Cup stadium with a closable roof has space for 68,895 spectators.

It opened almost a year ago to the day on November 30, 2021.

The arena is said to have cost 770 million euros.

Lineup of Germany against Costa Rica: Either Gündogan or Goretzka?

Update from December 1, 6:15 p.m .:

Germany’s line-up against Costa Rica is eagerly awaited.

As the

picture

writes, Joshua Kimmich will definitely start.

In addition to Munich, his Bayern colleague Leon Goretzka or Ilkay Gündogan will appear.

Means: One of the two midfield strategists has to sit on the bench first.

One question probably interests German football fans the most: Can “Neuner” Niclas “Lücke” Füllkrug play from the start?

Morocco and Croatia move into the round of 16: secret favorite Belgium fails in the World Cup preliminary round

Update from December 1, 5:59 p.m .:

The next two round of 16 participants at the 2022 World Cup have been determined.

Morocco wins 2-1 against Canada and is the winner of Group F. The Africans would be possible opponents of Germany if the DFB team also advances.

Canada around Bayern star Alphonso Davies leaves Qatar without a single point.

Belgium and Croatia drew 0-0, which also put the Balkan team in the round of 16.

For secret favorite Belgium, on the other hand, the World Cup ended early.

Star striker Romelu Lukaku had not used even the best chances.

Focused national coach: Hansi Flick makes a relaxed impression before the Costa Rica game

Update from December 1, 5:25 p.m .:

National coach Hansi Flick made a focused but relaxed impression before the decisive World Cup game against Costa Rica.

“We designed it ourselves to be where we are now.

We have to give 100 percent on the field, that's our responsibility," said the man from Baden at the press conference on the game in Qatar: "We no longer just have progress in our hands because the result in the first game wasn't what we wanted introduced us.

We want to get into the knockout stages, that's what we're here for.

I don't feel any pressure at all."

If Germany reaches the round of 16?

If Morocco were the opponent in Qatar

Update vom 1.

Nico Schlotterbeck feiert an diesem Donnerstag seinen 23ten Geburtstag.

National coach Hansi Flick had done without veteran Hummels in his World Cup squad, although the 2014 world champion has been in very good form for months.

Update from December 1, 3:23 p.m .:

The countdown is on!

In around four and a half hours, Germany will be fighting Costa Rica for a place in the round of 16 at the World Cup.

Costa Rica against Germany in the live ticker: Today in Qatar it is about the World Cup round of 16

Erstmeldung vom 30.

He also liked the "jubilee run", said Stindl, "how happy the team was for him".

Ex-national player Michael Ballack confirmed on

MagentaTV

: "Of course there is this momentum that you need in a tournament like this.

That the team really believes in themselves again.

That (

Füllkrug, ed

.) is a player who brings something different: The body language, the type of striker that we kind of long for.

That was a statement coming in like that.”

The body language, the type of striker that we kind of thirst for.

Michael Ballack on Niclas "Lücke" Füllkrug

Berti Vogts, who became European champion as a coach with Germany in 1996, even promoted a new centre-forward campaign in German football.

When asked about the filling mug, Vogts told the

Rheinische Post

: "That's a good German tradition.

Let’s think of Uwe Seeler, Gerd Müller, Horst Hrubesch, Rudi Völler, Jürgen Klinsmann and Oliver Bierhoff.”

Does national coach Hansi Flick hear them all when setting up the DFB team?

Germany needs a win against Costa Rica – and support from the Spaniards.
