Japan wins 2-1 against Spain - and thus seals Germany's World Cup exit.
The day after there is a discussion: was the ball out of bounds before the winning goal?
Doha - Germany flies home.
The 2022 World Cup is over for the 2014 world champion before it has really started.
Although they won their game against Costa Rica 4:2 after a roller coaster ride.
The result from the parallel game didn't fit - and so all hopes for the round of 16 were gone.

Japan defeated Spain 2-1.
From a German point of view, this game should have ended in a win for Spain or a draw.
And the Iberians were already leading 1-0 - so everything went according to plan.
However, this was thrown overboard shortly after the break with a double strike.
First Ritsu Doan made it 1-1 (48'), then Ao Tanaka pushed the ball over the goal line to make it 2-1 (51').
The question that the whole football world was discussing the day after: was the ball out of goal beforehand?

The rule clearly states: "The ball is out of bounds when it completely crosses a goal line or touchline.
It doesn't matter if he's on the ground or in the air.

Was the game device fully behind the line in the scene when Kaoru Mitoma tried to play it inside?
Keep in mind that the curve of the ball in the center matters - not the spot on the ground where the ball touches.

Germany is eliminated.
The scene before the Japanese 2-1 may now be crucial in hindsight, but that's only half the truth.

And the DFB selection is not allowed to complain at all.
There were 29 shots on goal against Costa Rica, with four hits.
Between the 61st and 67th minute you hit the post three times.
So it would have been possible to even overtake the Spaniards with an extremely big win.
