The moment made the whole assembly laugh.
Saturday, a little after 12 p.m. (local time, two hours less in France) and the passage of Hugo Lloris facing the French and foreign media in the huge auditorium of the Doha media center, Didier Deschamps took his place on the platform.
Everything was going normally, in this exercise of questions and answers on the day before France-Poland (Sunday 4 p.m., round of 16 of the World Cup) which he mastered to perfection, before an interrogation from a foreign colleague obliges the coach to bring the headset for the translation.
So far, nothing out of the ordinary.
With one detail: the translation never arrived.
What followed was rather funny and light, in an exercise that does not lend itself to moments of this type on the eve of an international meeting.
“
Hello
,” wondered “
DD
,” tapping on the headset and causing the media facing him to smile.
The person attached by FIFA and in charge of conducting the press conference could not help but burst out laughing.
Before Deschamps, embarrassed by the situation and not knowing what to do, continues.
"
Perhaps the gentleman or the lady (of the translation) are taking a technical break... I'm in a great moment of loneliness
," he smiles, awaiting information.
Finally, the team of translators was able to provide some information to the coach of the Blues, present in the gleaming media center in Doha for the round of 16 against the Poles.
“
Ah, I think people are talking to me about Lewandowski again.
“, he breathes before evoking the qualities of the Polish striker.
Why this (little) hiccup?
The reason is simple.
The question asked by our colleague was in … Sudanese and the team of translators was not able to ensure the transcription to the boss of the Blues.
Everything quickly went back to normal.
For, in the end, a light sequence which relaxed the assembly.
