Disappointment in Maccabi Tel Aviv: "A painful loss, a result of our naivety" | Israel today

Oded Ketch knows that his team must improve, especially in defense • The absence of the suspended Doran Hilliard and the injured Wade Baldwin was felt

Maccabi Tel Aviv's dismal streak in away games continued last night (Friday) when the Yellows surrendered to Bayern Munich with a score of 98:89 in the 11th round of the Euroleague and dropped to a 6:5 balance in a negative game.

The Yellows are still winless this offseason, and even a wonderful game and a career record by Lorenzo Braun in the Euroleague, with 36 points, was not enough.

As in all away games this season in the EuroLeague, the game in Munich also opened hesitantly and with weak defense on the part of Maccabi, which allowed the host to run to an early double-digit lead, on the way to fifty points at halftime for the Reds, who are not considered a fine offensive team.

In the absence of Daron Hilliard and Wade Baldwin, who did not fly with the team due to pain in his leg, Oded Ketch looked for other players to take command of the attack and fill in the gaps.

It was only Lorenzo Brown and Jaylen Adams (20 points) who impressed, and who recorded their best career game in the Euroleague.

The rest of the players were unable to step up and prevent an away score of 5:0.

"A painful loss. We were there for a lot of minutes, we stayed, we fought, but to win away games you have to do it with a much better defense," Ketch said.

The coach continued: "We lost this game defensively. We tried to make all kinds of changes and all kinds of defenses, in the end it came down to individual ability and one-on-one defense. I think we were a little naive there, we couldn't finish the job and gave them a lot of points in the second chance. We We need to be less naive, more focused and continue to improve in this aspect."

Adams, as mentioned one of the bright spots, shared his feelings at the end: "I think there were some moves we could have made to get back into the game, but we weren't focused enough on defense. If we had defended a little better, it would have developed into a completely different game in my opinion."

The club was disappointed by the lax defense presented by the players and the loss in the battle for rebounds, which clearly went in favor of the host (34:24).

"The rebound? It was an effort in this aspect. I think it is a result of our naivety. We were not able to do it to Bayern on the other side. Today, unlike other times, we fell in the defense of the individual", concluded Ketch.

The disappointing ability in the away games and in general sits on the minds of the team owners who are going to gather soon and make fateful decisions, when it is clear to everyone that a home loss to Valencia on Thursday may further shake Ketch's rocking chair.

"The rumors about my future? It's not something that bothers me, I control the things I can control. I can lead Maccabi Tel Aviv to the top and I have nothing more to say on the subject," Ketch commented on reports about his condition.

After the match, the Yellows will make their way to Israel and begin preparations for their next league game, which will be held on Monday at HaKonchia Hall against Hapoel Beer Sheva/Dimona as part of the eighth round of the Winner League.
