Geretsried – The Geretsried ice hockey team has finally been rewarded for great morale, nice combinations and a large number of shots.
However, the River Rats were only 3-0 down against VfE Ulm/Neu-Ulm on Friday evening before they started to catch up and won 4-3 (0-1, 1-2, 2-0) in overtime .
"A big compliment to the entire team - all three blocks did a great job today," said ESC coach Hans Tauber Jr., while his Ulm colleague Martin Jainz stated: "You can't play ice hockey in the Bayernliga with just ten minutes win game.”
In fact, the guests started furiously, constricted the Geretsrieder in their third and came after seven minutes through Stefan Rodrigues to 0:1.
Only then did the home side come into play better, but remained harmless except for a repelled solo effort by Martin Köhler.
In the second period, Ulm pulled away to 3-0 within 37 seconds with two goals in the goalkeeper's short corner (24'/25').
Suddenly, however, the fighting spirit of the River Rats awoke, and from then on they determined the match.
Despite good opportunities, it was only enough to make it 1:3 (37th) through Daniel Bursch.
"That was the can opener," said Coach Tauber later.
In fact, the ESC continued to storm forward in the final section and was rewarded with goals scored by Koehler in the majority (56th) and Klaus Berger (58th) to make it 3:3.
In the extra time, Dominic Fuchs made the deserved 4:3 victory perfect after 1:22 minutes.
"Today I'm really angry with my team for the first time," growled VfE coach Jainz in the press conference.
