World Cup: Mbappé and Hakimi on fire, Neymar injured… the results of the Parisians halfway

2022-12-03T07:56:03.652Z

At the end of the group stage, the record of PSG players at the World Cup is rather mixed. Kylian Mbappé is the smallest Parisian

Eleven PSG players were present on the starting line in Qatar.

They will be nine to play in the round of 16 of the World Cup: only Keylor Navas, eliminated with Costa Rica, and Nuno Mendes, qualified but injured with Portugal, will miss the call.

From Kylian Mbappé, on fire with the Blues, to Neymar, still embarrassed by his ankle, via Achraf Hakimi, decisive with Morocco, here is a first assessment of the Parisians.

They are there: Mbappé, Hakimi, Marquinhos, Messi

The most fit Parisian player at the start of the World Cup is obviously Kylian Mbappé.

The striker is as successful with the Blues as in the jersey of PSG.

With a goal scored against Australia, a double against Denmark and an assist on his counter, the number 10 of the France team is at the rendezvous of this World Cup.

Mbappé wanted to mark the competition with his mark, it is successful for the moment and it will be necessary to confirm this Sunday in 8th against Poland (4 p.m.).

His great friend Achraf Hakimi is also one of the big winners of this start to the World Cup.

The defender largely contributed to Morocco's qualification for the round of 16, a first for his selection since 1986. Despite a slight thigh injury, the right-back holds firm and displays real defensive reliability to which must be added his traditional offensive contribution (1 assist against Canada, voted man of the match).

The Round of 16 against Spain on Tuesday afternoon (4 p.m.) will have a special flavor for Madrid-born Hakimi.

Marquinhos forms a solid pair with Thiago Silva in the Brazil jersey.

Unsurprisingly, Marquinhos and Brazil also came out on top in their pool.

Holder in the first two games against Serbia and Switzerland, the central defender has regained his automatism alongside his friend and ex-teammate at PSG Thiago Silva.

The Seleção did not concede a goal with this hinge.

Rested against Cameroon, Marquinhos will face South Korea in the round of 16 this Monday evening (8 p.m.).

After a failed start to the World Cup with an unexpected defeat against Saudi Arabia, Lionel Messi will be there for the round of 16.

The captain of Argentina shone less than with PSG and notably missed a penalty against Poland.

His balance sheet remains correct (two goals scored) but the Argentine people will expect much more from his genius during the final phase during which he has never scored in his career.

Australia awaits him this Saturday evening (8 p.m.).

They are in the infirmary: Neymar, Nuno Mendes, Danilo

For them, the World Cup rhymes with frustration and injuries.

Neymar, Nuno Mendes and Danilo spent more time in the infirmary than on the Qatari lawns of the World Cup.

The biggest question concerns the state of form of the Brazilian number 10, hit in the right ankle against Serbia.

Appeared very strong during this meeting, the playmaker has not played again and the doubt still remains as to his return to competition.

His presence on the bench during the round of 16 is hoped for but no risk will be taken by the staff.

Brazil, however, is crossing its fingers to see its star again as soon as possible in order to revitalize a team in need of madness.

Nuno Mendes, injured in the thigh, will not play again during this World Cup.

For Nuno Mendes, 40 minutes on the clock during the competition, the mass is already said: we will not see him again in the Seleçao jersey due to a thigh injury that occurred during the match against Uruguay.

The unavailability of the left side is estimated at eight weeks but he remains with his selection for treatment.

His partner Danilo, victim of a broken rib, is not doing much better.

Holder and unconvincing in the inaugural match against Ghana, the defender / midfielder is not guaranteed to return as his selection is qualified for the knockout stages.

They don't play: Vitinha, Soler, Sarabia

The third Portuguese player from PSG called up for this World Cup is not much better off than his partners.

Left on the bench against Ghana and Uruguay, Vitinha started in the surprise defeat against South Korea and benefited from 81 minutes.

But his role in his team should be limited.

As for the Spanish selection, the countdown of the playing time of Carlos Soler and Pablo Sarabia is also quick to do.

The first was used 40 minutes during the card against Costa Rica (7-0) with a goal in the key.

Since then, Luis Enrique has no longer called on him.

Sarabia, meanwhile, remained on the substitute bench for La Roja's three games, which will face Morocco on Sunday.

His World Cup is over: Keylor Navas

For Keylor Navas, the World Cup is already over.

But this parenthesis in Qatar will at least have allowed him to play his first three games of the season.

Missed out on his match during Costa Rica's rout against Spain, the 35-year-old goalkeeper raised the bar against Japan and Germany and showed that he was still on the level.

If he could not avoid the elimination of his selection, his reflex stops proved that he still had good remains before returning to a role of lining at PSG.
