World Cup 2022: The Netherlands are in the quarter

The Netherlands have reached the quarterfinals of the World Cup in Qatar.

In the round of 16, Bond coach Louis van Gaal's team beat the USA 3-1 (2-0), the Dutch goals were scored by Memphis Depay (10th minute), Daley Blind (45+1) and Denzel Dumfries (81st).

Haji Wright scored for the USA (76th).

The next opponent of the Dutch will be determined in the game between Argentina and Australia in the evening (8 p.m., TV: ARD and Magenta).

Right at the beginning of the game there was a moment of shock for the Dutch team when Christian Pulisic came free from eleven yards after a pass from Weston McKennie, but was denied by Andries Noppert (3').

After that, Oranje dominated the action.

The opening goal fell straight to the point: after a combination of Barça striker Memphis and Davy Klaassen, Cody Gakpo shifted the ball to the right wing.

There, wing defender Dumfries played with a good overview into the backcourt, where Memphis, who had moved up, hit the left corner unchallenged (10').

The US defenders stared at the ball instead of the opponents in their own penalty area.

After a throw-in on the right, the Netherlands followed suit: Dumfries broke to the baseline and played a pass, almost identical to the 1-0 – this time it was Blind who ran in the middle and scored the second goal (45+1 ).

His guard Sergiño Dest reacted too late to Blind's path.

USA are coming again

At the beginning of the second half, the USA almost scored from a corner, but Tim Ream didn't hit the ball properly (49').

The Americans were now far behind, which gave the Dutch plenty of space to counter.

But there was no preliminary decision.

Instead it got tight again.

First Wright missed from a very acute angle after a blatant bad pass from Memphis (75th), but shortly afterwards the substitute struck to make it 1: 2 after a Pulisic cross, which Wright slipped over the right instep and in a high arc at the far post into the goal fell (76th).

An exciting final phase was just beginning, then Dumfries brought the decision: A cross from Blind went completely unnoticed at the far post and increased the lead to 3:1 with a volley (81st).
