Before the round of 16 there was an additional fuss about Messi: he received threats from a world boxing champion!

Canelo Álvarez has since apologized.

"In the last few days I have let myself be carried away by the passion and love for my country and have spoken inappropriately, for which I apologize to Messi and the Argentine people," Álvarez recently wrote on Twitter.

The pugilist was recently annoyed by a scene from the Argentinian dressing room.

Messi touched a Mexican jersey lying on the ground with a shoe while taking it off.

However, a video from the dressing room clearly shows that Messi is not looking down at the moment.

Álvarez, however, accused Messi of disrespect for his country.

"May he pray to God he doesn't meet me," wrote the multiple champion, among other things, in a veritable Twitter tirade.

Whether Álvarez will have to watch the Argentines and Messi win any longer remains to be seen tonight.
