The recently somewhat hapless Geretsrieder River Rats are hoping for a sense of achievement at ESV Buchloe on Sunday

Geretsried – If you break your teeth on opposing goalkeepers week after week or dozens of shots fly over or off the goal in every match – that naturally gnaws at the self-confidence of an ice hockey team.

"We simply can't confirm in the league games how well we train during the week," regrets Hans Tauber Jr., who found out about his Geretsrieder River Rats: "The body language isn't what we're used to, it's not positive." A reproach he could not make his protégés in view of their attacking efforts.

"There's just no kind of wow effect," believes the young coach.

In order to make it into the top 8 of the Bayernliga with the help of a strong second half of the season, he naturally hopes that the knot in the offensive will finally burst.

There is another opportunity on Sunday in the match at ESV Buchloe (5 p.m.).

Coach Christoph Lerchner's team is in ninth place, recently won at home against Pfaffenhofen (7:3) and lost against Peißenberg (1:5).

A surprise two weeks ago was the 7:1 victory at the favored EHC Königsbrunn.

In attack, the Allgäu can rely on three scorers with the Czech Michal Petrak (26 points), veteran Alexander Krafczyk (21) and ex-Sonthofener Markus Vaitl (20).

For Tauber there is no reason for defensive measures.

"Buchloe is a team that we are on an equal footing with," emphasizes the coach.

That's why he doesn't want to give the hosts the opportunity to raise their game: "We have to make sure that we take matters into our own hands." However, the River Rats will go to the Allgäu without Ondrej Horvath, who is ill.

Jakob Heigl (knee) is also missing.

Defenders Marek Haloda and Bernhard Jorde are back.

Despite occasional staff shortages, the ESC has no plans for the second transfer window, which started on December 1st.

"Nothing is planned at the moment," said 2nd Chairman Peter Holdschik on request.
