The FIA ​​wants to change this problem in the coming season with a new catalog of penalties.

Paris – The last race of the season in Abu Dhabi (November 20) was not long ago when the FIA ​​is already planning to change the catalog of rules for Formula 1 in 2023. The measures are intended to make the races even more attractive in the future.

Because especially in Spa there was a starting place chaos this year!

After qualifying, some drivers were given a grid penalty due to an engine change.

At some point, the spectators no longer knew who started from which place.

The Automobile Association wants something like this to be eliminated in the coming years.

It is now being discussed that the engine change will in future be punished with a time penalty during the first pit stop in the race and no longer interfere with the starting grid.

The previous rule meant that at circuits like Spa or Monza, the teams tactically accepted engine penalties.

FIA is very afraid of losing spectators

Teams are currently allowed to use three engines per season without penalty.

Everything else, even individually replaced parts, will be punished with a grid penalty.

In the future there will be several penalties for several components - so the Formula 1 teams will not have an incentive to replace the entire power unit at once.

In addition, the number of engine units should be limited - a new engine part would then have to be exchanged for a used one.

The Automobile Association fears that the chaotic starting place penalties will scare off occasional spectators in particular.

In addition, the FIA ​​itself is said to have been less than enthusiastic that the starting grid from qualifying often no longer corresponded to that of the race.

The time penalties during the race could also create more excitement.

After all, a lot can go wrong with a pit stop in the race.
