The athletes were crowned by the Olympic Committee in Israel • Among the other winners: Ayelet Zusman, Shani Hershko and Blessing Afrifa

At the end of the board meeting that ended tonight (Sunday), the board of the Israel Olympic Committee selected the outstanding athletes and coaches for 2022.

In the outstanding female athlete category, the athlete Luna Chemtai Salpeter was selected, thanks to her extraordinary winning of the bronze medal at the World Marathon Championships and the bronze medal at the European Championships in the 10,000 meters run.

This is the first time she has been awarded the title of athlete of the year by the Israeli Olympic Committee.

In the outstanding athlete category, the Olympic champion gymnast Artyom Dolgopiat was chosen, thanks to his crowning as European champion in the floor exercise this year.

This is the third time in his career that he has won the title.

In the coach of the year category, Ayelet Zusman, the head coach of the artistic gymnastics branch, was selected.

The choice is the result of leading the gymnastics team to win the silver medal at the World Championships and the gold medal at the European All-around Championships, and alongside these, her apprentice, Daria Atmanov, won the gold medal in all-around at the European Championships held in Israel.

This is the second time in her career that she has won this prestigious title.

Shani Hershko, coach of the women's judo team, was selected in the coach of the year category, who leads the team to achievements while making impressive progress in the Olympic cycle to Paris.

This year, Hershko's apprentices won a gold medal at the European Championship (Tamna Nelson Levy), a silver medal (Raz Hershko), 2 bronze medals (Gili Shreer, Shira Rini).

Alongside these two, Hershko led the mixed judo team, alongside men's coach Oren Samadja, to winning the team bronze medal at the World Judo Championship.

The Israeli Olympic Committee chose this year to dedicate the category of outstanding young athletes to the memory of the late Olympic team athlete and kayak coach Barak Lufen, who was murdered in April in the murderous attack at Dizingoff in Tel Aviv. An athlete with all his limbs and an educator of the future generation in both the Olympic and Paralympic fields.

In the category of the young athlete of the year, the 18-year-old windsurfer Daniela Peleg (Hapoel Sdot Yam), the under-21 world champion and the runner-up of the adult world champion, was chosen.

In the category of the young athlete of the year, the athlete Blessing Afripa, world champion under the age of 20 in the 200 meter run and 7th place in the European Championships for adults, was chosen.

A new category that will be distributed this year is the 'breakthrough of the year' and will be awarded to the team artistic gymnastics team, which won the title of European champions this year in the all-around and the record achievement in the world championships - winning the silver medal that earned them the international criterion for the Olympic Games in Paris 2024.
