DFB President Bernd Neuendorf has to make important decisions after the World Cup.
Now an observation from Matthew could get him into trouble.
Munich / Doha – After the preliminary round at the 2022 World Cup, everything at the DFB is now under scrutiny.
The President, Bernd Neuendorf, who is generally considered to have strong opinions and integrity, must decide on any personnel changes that may be necessary.
What the DFB boss can use least of all is disruptive fire, but that's exactly what Lothar Matthäus is now kindling.
On the edge of the Spain game, he is said to have seen Neuendorf together with the criticized FIFA boss Gianni Infantino.
Neuendorf and Infantino joking in the VIP box?
In his column at
Bild
, Lothar Matthäus now shares observations that he claims to have made on the fringes of the Germany vs. Spain game at the Al-Bayt Stadium.
"When I'm in the stadium for a 1-1 win against Spain and in the VIP box I see that after all the fuss with Fifa, DFB President Bernd Neuendorf is talking to Fifa boss Gianni Infantino, laughing and posing for photos with him - Then I ask myself: how credible is Neuendorf, how credible is the DFB?

But how true are Matthew's observations?
The fact is, there are no photos of Neuendorf and Infantino from the Spain game.
On the sidelines of the games against Japan and Costa Rica, pictures were taken with the two, but only one shows a situation like that described by Matthew.
Of course, the press does not have access to the VIP areas either, so everyone has to judge for themselves how credible they think the statements by the German record national player are.
DFB President Neuendorf under pressure
Whatever the actual events may have been, the last thing Neuendorf needs is talk of a fraternity with Infantino.
The DFB President was only elected to office in March and is seen as a straightforward person who speaks plain language and who now has the role of crisis manager in the DFB.
In addition, Neuendorf has already publicly announced that it will not support Infantino in his potential re-election.
On the other hand, Neuendorf has
already rejected a complete loss of contact with Infantino to
MagentaTV .
"That would also be unprofessional," said the DFB boss.
In any case, after the World Cup, Neuendorf's strength should be directed more inwards, where Oliver Bierhoff in particular now has to worry about his job.
