Like the day before, the leaders responded to the call for the quarter-finals this Sunday.
Against Poland, France made the powder speak (3-1), with two cannon shots from Kylian Mbappé, which left the whole planet speechless.
Facing Senegal, England responded collectively (3-0), in a match that was all in control.
The quarter-final between the two winners of the day, next Saturday, promises a lot.
The demonstration: the real Lions were English
Hell was predicted for England, opposed to Senegal in the round of 16, this Sunday.
Gareth Southgate's men came out with distinction, winning well (3-0), thanks to their young attackers.
Jostled in the first half hour, the Three Lions first opened the scoring thanks to Jordan Henderson (38th), who benefited from a perfect center back from Jude Bellingham.
Then it was Phil Foden who became a conductor, sending two assists to Harry Kane (45th + 1) then Bukayo Saka (57th).
-3 - Against England tonight (0-3), Senegal suffered their heaviest defeat in a major tournament (World Cup and CAN).
Eliminated.

The player: Mbappé set fire
All eyes were on him and, once again, Kylian Mbappé did not slip away.
The Parisian striker was the man of the match for the Blues in the victory against Poland (3-1).
With a decisive pass for Olivier Giroud, he launched the meeting perfectly, before completing the French success with two strikes in the top corner (74th, 90th + 1), which Wojciech Szczesny will surely have nightmares for many nights.
Now, the Bondy prodigy is the only top scorer in the World Cup, with five goals (and two assists, sorry).
Mbappe made this amazing strike look so easy!

The record: Giroud top scorer in the national team
Jostled at the start of the match, France was delivered by the one no one saw there a year ago: Giroud.
Launched by Mbappé at the limit of offside, full axis, the striker of the Blues deceived Wojciech Szczesny with a trickster cross tri, just before half-time (44th).
With this 52nd goal, he became the only top scorer in the history of the Blues, ahead of Thierry Henry.
What to thank with a "I love you" his decisive passer.

The near record: And Kane should soon imitate it
Until then silent in this World Cup, Harry Kane has finally opened his counter.
The England striker scored the break goal for his team just before half-time.
On the counter, he benefited from Bellingham's good pass for Foden, who then adjusted the last defender to offer a caviar to his captain.
It's Kane's 52nd goal in a Three Lions jersey, just one short of Wayne Rooney's all-time national record.
11 - Harry Kane has scored 11 major tournament goals for England (7 at the World Cup, 4 at EURO), overtaking Gary Lineker (10) as the Three Lions' top scorer in those competitions.
Historical.

The prognosis: Macron had it all right
In an interview with Parisian, Emmanuel Macron was asked for his prediction for the eighth between France and Poland.
The President of the Republic could hardly have aimed better, since he announced a 3-1 victory, with a goal from Lewandowski for Poland and goals for the Blues from Giroud and Mbappé!
Only the latter's double escaped him, since he claimed a "joker" for the identity of the author of the third goal...

The flop: Lewandowski, a penalty and that's it
Before the match, the equation was clear: on the Polish side, the danger had to come from Robert Lewandowski.
But the striker, lonely at the forefront of Poland, left the spotlight to Piotr Zelinski, more incisive than him.
In additional time, the Barcelona striker was however offered an opportunity to close the gap with a generous penalty.
But he first wasted this opportunity, stumbling over Hugo Lloris, before the referee let him withdraw.
More successful, he then celebrated his goal (90th + 9)… Immediately followed by the final whistle.
