The Croatian national team qualified for the quarter-finals of the FIFA World Cup by defeating its Japanese counterpart 3-1 on penalties, after they tied in the regular and extra time with a goal for one in the match that brought them together at Al Janoub Stadium in the Qatari capital, Doha, in the round of 16 matches.
Japan scored first through Daisen Maeda in the 43rd minute, and Croatia equalized in the 55th minute through Ivan Perisic, before the match turned into extra time, and the tie continued, so the two teams resorted to penalty kicks, which the Croatian team decided in its favor.
So far, the Netherlands, Argentina, France and England have qualified for the quarter-finals of the World Cup.
