Croatia qualified on Monday for the quarter-finals of the World Cup in Qatar, by eliminating Japan in the eighth on penalties (1-1 ap, 3 tab to 1).
The Japanese had opened the scoring by Maeda (43rd), but the Balkan players had equalized by Peresic (55th).
No more goals were scored until the end of regulation time, nor during extra time.
The qualification was therefore played on penalties.
And Croatian goalkeeper Livakovic made the difference by stopping three Japanese shots.
In the quarter-finals, Croatia will face Brazil or South Korea who face each other this Monday (8 p.m.).
