Is the drama still ahead?
About a month ago, the entire tennis world was stunned, when a banned substance called Roxadustat was discovered in the blood of Simona Halep, and as a result the Romanian tennis player received a severe suspension of four years.
But now, it seems that the decision may change.
"Based on the evidence provided, it was identified that this substance was ingested by Alep through a contaminated product, that is, food containing the prohibited substance, but this is not indicated in its labeling or in any information accessible on the Internet," confirmed Christian Jura, judge of the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne (TAS).
"If it is possible to clearly determine how the substance entered an athlete's body as well as the athlete's lack of intention when taking it to improve his performance, it will be necessary to reduce the suspension or even cancel it completely," admitted the judge.
Halep and her medical and legal team have been working feverishly since learning of the decision.
Now, the Romanian tennis legend, who has two Grand Slam wins under her belt, will do everything to prove her innocence, and it seems that the road there is long, but certainly possible.
