The 2022 World Cup lasts until December 18th.

But the clean-up work is already beginning, long before the final of this World Cup.

Doha – The 2022 World Cup is now really picking up speed.

The Round of 16 has just been played and no matter how much criticism the Winter World Cup has had to take - the football fans are finally getting their money's worth in sporting terms.

November 20th to December 18th

64 games

32 participants

Eight Stadiums

Twelve days before the final: Qatar is already dismantling the World Cup

Then the 6:1 of the Portuguese against Switzerland, the penalty dramas in Japan - Croatia and Morocco - Spain or the convincing performances of France (3:1 against Poland) and Brazil (4:1 against South Korea) are exactly what what the neutral observer wants: top football, action and excitement.

Nevertheless, the end of this World Cup is already being considered, as reported by tz.de.

The finale will take place on December 18th - twelve days, so long before that, but the dismantling work has started!

No joke.

Clean-up work in front of the 974 World Cup stadium has already begun

Three of the eight arenas are no longer venues for games after the round of 16.

On Tuesday morning, December 6th, all the tarpaulins and grids for the subway line around Stadium 974 were removed, and numerous construction workers cleared and worked in the forecourt.

Around twelve hours earlier, Brazil had beaten South Korea 4-1.

The dismantling of the actual stadium should not begin until after the final of the World Cup, said two of the workers.

The stadium was built from 974 shipping containers because of Qatar's telephone code 00974.

It is intended to serve as an example, since it required less building material and could be built so quickly and allegedly more cost-effectively.

It can also be completely dismantled and rebuilt elsewhere.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino raves about "the sustainability of the World Cup"

Last year six games of the Arab Cup took place in Stadium 974, at the World Cup the architecturally unusual arena was the venue for seven games.

Leisure and green areas are to be created on the area directly next to the harbor and beach.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino wouldn't be Gianni Infantino if he didn't resort to lofty vocabulary on precisely this point.

"This stadium," he said of the container construct, "will be reused somewhere else in the world." This unique operation is "part of the legacy of this World Cup, the sustainability of the World Cup, thinking about the environment."

World Cup stadium is dismantled to be rebuilt elsewhere: but nobody wants the containers

The only problem is that even twelve years after the World Cup was awarded, potential buyers are not exactly queuing up, interest is limited.

It remains to be seen whether, and if so, where, Stadium 974 will be rebuilt - as will the subsequent use of the other arenas built under the most controversial circumstances.

A fan from England recently spotted the homes of the many migrant workers who had moved to Qatar over the past few years to help build the World Cup.

The blocks of flats they slept in have long since been abandoned, and there is a ghost town atmosphere.

Apparently, the building will be demolished in the next few months.

Sustainability is certainly different.
