The role of a national coach is predestined for Flick.

He can manage, is empathetic, understands football and the footballer.

He himself knows that he made mistakes at the World Cup: sticking to old hierarchies, breaking his own game to satisfy substitute players with minutes of play, deciding against players who were ready to start.

For this he was punished in the most bitter way and from this he draws his lessons.

What is needed now is unity.

Getting back up from failure is greatness.

The new appointment to the Bierhoff position is intended to set the course for what is right and important.

After all, a European Championship in your own country is just around the corner.

And then not only the German Football Association is the host, but the entire republic.

Until then, a football euphoria has to be rekindled in order to be able to celebrate a summer fairy tale again.

That's only possible if our boys are supported in the way that other nations are doing and we're now having to watch enviously in the quarter-finals.

It's difficult to dictate something to us, because we are the great moral world champions and know so many things so much better.

But please: Germany, finally stop whining and look to the future together with Hansi Flick.
