The saga surrounding the departure of the coach of the Israeli national team at the World Championships in short pool swimming (25 meters) has come to an end, after David Gamborg received a visa and will take off tomorrow (Saturday) for Melbourne, Australia.
As you may remember, the team that includes the veteran Yaakov Tomarkin and Miron Hirauti already took off yesterday for the championship without a coach, since the coach appointed by the union for the competition, Dima Rybinski, announced that he could not fly.
Since that announcement, the union has been trying to find a replacement and also to quickly get a visa to the distant continent, a visa that takes at least two weeks to issue.
The championship will open next Tuesday and will last five days.
It should be remembered that although this is not a target competition for the Israeli swimmers and therefore most of the swimmers, including the European champion Anastasia Gorbenko, do not take part in it, it is still a world championship, when such a decision can harm their preparations.
In the last championship, last year in Abu Dhabi, Tomarkin advanced to the final of the 200 meter individual medley and finished in seventh place.
Due to the constraints of the corona virus and the postponement of competitions, within one year, there will be no less than three world championships, when in addition to the one in Australia, the world championship in long pools will be held in Japan this July and in February 2024, the world championship will be held in Doha, Qatar.
