The Burgstall-Löwen Gleißenberg are looking forward to the Christmas party visit from 1860 coach Köllner (Sunday from 4 p.m.) - a home game for the Upper Palatinate.

Before things get serious again at TSV 1860, it's going to be a celebration.

On the third Sunday in Advent, one day before the start of winter preparation training, the lions swarm out to please their fans.

Christmas party visits are coming up - especially with the Burgstall lions in Gleißenberg, this triggers an early festive mood.

The 135-member fan club, founded in 1993, can look forward to the 1860 celebrity par excellence - to trainer Michael Köllner, who also comes from the Upper Palatinate.

In an interview, board member Markus Weihrauch, 38, reveals how the Löwen fans in the 850-strong community managed to do that and how they will be received by Köllner on Sunday (4 p.m.).

Hello Mr. Weihrauch, how did you manage to land Michael Köllner for your fan club?

Weihrauch:

I read in the newsletter for the Löwen fan clubs that you can apply with a Christmas party.

Great, I thought so and just wrote it down.

Our wish was Yannick Deichmann - or the coach.

A promise came relatively quickly that someone would come.

We didn't know who, but it's clear that we're really going to throw a Christmas party - our first in our 29 years of existence.

Does that mean the celebration is only taking place because Köllner is coming?

Frankincense:

Sort of.

The planning has been going on since it became clear that someone was coming.

We have only known that it is Köllner since Friday a week ago.

Then came the confirmation from Felix Hiller (one of the fan representatives from 1860/ed.).

What was your reaction?

Weihrauch:

I was in the car and first had to pull over to the side.

That's great for us, it couldn't be better.

The jackpot!

Because being from the Upper Palatinate means that you are automatically a fan of Michael Köllner?

Frankincense:

You can say it like that.

With us there is no debate and no doubt.

We stand by the coach and think he's doing a great job.

So Köllner can look forward to a home game?

Frankincense:

Absolutely.

And the village restaurant functions as a stadium?

Frankincense:

Unfortunately not.

For two years we have not been well positioned in terms of restaurants in Gleißenberg, so we have to switch to Furth im Wald, nine kilometers away.

We celebrate there in the Hotel Gasthof Fellner.

The landlord is also a lion fan, we know him - so it fits quite well.

What exactly is planned?

Frankincense:

We hope the trainer will arrive by around 4.30pm.

We'll start with a review of the year.

There is a raffle with fan articles, where Mr. Köllner can hand over the gifts.

I hope he doesn't go beyond the time frame with his need to speak (laughs).

And of course St. Nicholas will come, probably a traditional one, but almost certainly with a lion scarf.

One or the other question may also be a bit critical, but mei: Small hangers are normal in football.

You can't always blame the coach for everything, the team is just as important.

But most of us are still in good spirits that the promotion will work out this year.

Markus Weihrauch, chairman of the Burgstall-Löwen, about the upcoming visit of 1860 coach Michael Köllner.

Nothing to eat?

Frankincense:

Yes, of course.

There is a small menu that our host puts together.

The schnitzel is traditionally at the top – for 13.90 euros.

With us, the prices are still within limits.

There's venison goulash, of course also something vegetarian.

We are well taken care of.

And after dinner we're slowly letting it end.

The trainer won't be able to stay forever if the first training session is scheduled for the next day.

Before the World Cup break, things weren't going so well for the lions.

Critical questions aren't to be expected, are they?

Weihrauch:

One or the other question may also be a bit critical, but mei: Small stumbling blocks are normal in football.

You can't always blame the coach for everything, the team is just as important.

But most of us are still in good spirits that the promotion will work out this year.

What would you suggest to make things better again after the winter break?

An access perhaps?

Frankincense:

When the Option is There and the Money is There.

.

.

An extra man up front certainly wouldn't hurt.

Is everyone in the Upper Palatinate as deep blue as your Burgstall lions?

Frankincense:

Yes, yes.

The district of Cham actually only consists of lions.

There is nothing else here.

You grow up with it as a teenager.

There are very, very few red followers.

That's why the lions keep coming back to the Upper Palatinate.

In Lorant's time in the 90s there was a training camp in Lam, later more often in Bodenmais.

.

.

Weihrauch:

Exactly, of course we went there too.

And, very important: a good 20 years ago, Wildmoser came to visit us.

How many fans do you expect on Sunday?

Weihrauch:

Three more registrations arrived today – we are now 71.

And how many fit in?

Incense:

70 (laughs).

But I've already spoken to our host.

There is also an adjoining room.

No one is sent home, at least not by our own members.
