ESC Dorfen were eight seconds short of a threesome on Friday evening.
So it went back to overtime and a penalty shootout.
In the end, the ice pirates of EA Schongau had to admit defeat 4:5 (0:0, 1:2, 3:2, 0:1).
Dorfen – The ESC got off to a promising start.
Gaspr Susanj shot wide from the best position after 40 seconds, Tomas Vrba curled the puck to the far post a minute later.
Even a penalty time against the mammoths brought nothing.
The guests from Pfaffenwinkl also got involved, and Max Englbrecht in the ESC sanctuary was at least occasionally employed by Schongau's Samy Paré.
There are good "zero to zero" - this was not the case at the break.
It didn't last long either.
After a Schongauer broke through, keeper Englbrecht received support from Benedikt Dietrich.
He received a two-minute penalty for hitting the stick.
Schongau's top scorer Höfler promptly converted the majority to 1:0.
In the 30th minute, Urban Sodja danced everyone out with a solo, including goalkeeper Blankenburg, but the round didn't want to go into the square.
That happened on the other side.
Englbrecht fended off a Paré shot, but was powerless against Tristan Gagnon's follow-up shot.
82 seconds before the next break, defender Dietrich scored the goal in the center forward position.
Dorfen brought a remaining penalty time into the final third.
There were still five seconds left on the clock when a liberating blow landed over the rink on the lurking Tomas Vrba, and he didn't miss the opportunity to make it 2:2.
Now the game had picked up speed.
Dorfen determined the direction, but fell behind again after a counterattack by Simon Maucher.
Christoph Hradek then seemed to have shot the ESC colors in the direction of victory.
At 3:3 he chased the disc into the cross corner and at 4:3 he successfully poked.
Eight seconds before the end, Paré saved the mammoths into overtime.
It ended goalless.
The Canadian was the only one to score in the penalty shootout.
