ZDF reporter Béla Réthy believes in Flick, but not in a repeat of the summer fairy tale of 2024. Germany is too torn compared to 2006.

Munich – After the embarrassing end of the 2022 World Cup, the 2024 home European Championship is ahead. While some are already planning the line-up for 2024, others are swearing by the downfall of German football.

ZDF reporter Béla Réthy now criticized the division in the country.

With this negative mood, a repetition of the summer fairy tale is not possible.

World Cup 2022 in Qatar: No German football festival

Many remember the home World Cup in 2006 with great joy. A young German team that inspired and carried away the fans.

Public viewing with gigantic fan miles, seas of flags, motorcades, and the tears of the defeat against Italy: Germany.

A summer fairy tale.

There was hardly any football euphoria at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, instead the DFB team was mocked.

EM 2024: Béla Réthy does not believe in the next summer fairy tale

The year 2024 could be the next big football festival in Germany.

The home European Championship is coming up, but there is little to feel anticipation.

Will the next summer fairy tale follow in 2024?

In the podcast "Die Wochentester" ZDF reporter Béla Réthy expressed his concerns.

“It's just like Woodstock.

That cannot be repeated,” says the 65-year-old.

The reporter sees the reasons not only in the DFB team, but much more in the mood in the country.

“We are very divided, very negative.

In 2006 Germany was a different country, more relaxed, more tolerant.

Not so dogmatic.

Not so demagogic,” argues Réthy.

Réthy on Flick: "Should have enough self-confidence to take care of things yourself, without a babysitter"

The reporter legend, who will be over after the 2022 World Cup, also commented on the departure of Oliver Bierhoff and the future of Hansi Flick, who will also be on the sidelines in 2024.

"With Hansi Flick it sounded as if he couldn't do without Bierhoff.

But a coach who has won seven titles with FC Bayern in one season should have enough self-confidence to take care of things yourself, without a babysitter.”
