A new chance for football or the end of what used to be the most important department in the city's oldest sports club: these are the two perspectives of the merger with Rot-Weiss Klettham.
Erding – Both did at the department meeting of the footballers of the TSV on Thursday.
And that causes discussions even in families.
"TSV will lose 200 members," estimated Günter Sandner.
"That's a bit much, Bap," his son Ralf replied, but got the answer: "That's more of a lower limit.
We have 400 to 450 members.”
The Sandners are not just anyone in the TSV football department, which has been called FC Erding since the merger with the sports club in 1998.
Both were outstanding footballers, then leaders of the department - through good and bad times.
Son Ralf has just led the division through particularly difficult times, as he now reported to 46 members.
A year and a half ago, the first was relegated from the district league.
25 players left the club at the time.
"We went into the A class voluntarily, canceled the second one." A "tough season" followed, we were behind for a long time, finished tenth in 13 teams, but had a twelve-point lead over the relegated team."
After that it slowly went up.
Sandner: "We have a second again, which gives us a lot of joy." And after a false start, a winning streak and three subsequent defeats, the first is solid with sixth place and "a huge lead down".
However, there are already 15 points in second place.
"No man's land of the table," the department head called it.
According to youth leader Lothar Feuser, the youngsters paint a similar picture.
"In terms of sport, it was manageable.
We have a team in every year group.
With the A youth we had to form a syndicate with Eichenkofen because of the twelve players we had raised since the D youth there were suddenly only five left.” The JFG Sempt Erding describes Feuser as a “success story”.
In the area of D and C youth, you are on an equal footing with Altenerding.
"Sometimes we even overtook them."
Treasurer Kurt Müller also had positive numbers ready, who reported a cash position of 26,800 euros.
With income of around 76,700 euros, an increase of a good 9,000 euros was generated in 2021.
"We hear that everything is going relatively well again," said Wolfgang Schaffel, a veteran TSV member.
So why is it necessary for all footballers to leave the club?
This is exactly what Sandner had previously announced: “We will join forces with Klettham to form FC Herzogstadt Erding on July 1, 2023.
Youth, men and AH under the umbrella of RWK.” Talks had been going on for months that the main club had been informed, as had the city of Erding, the football association and all members who could be reached by email.
On February 2nd there will be an information event together with the RWK.
"Everything has to be in place then: trainer, squad, department management," said Sandner, who describes himself as a "big advocate of such mergers".
In complete contrast to TSV President Rainer Winter.
“The main club is losing a lot of members as a result.
That weakens us compared to the city and district when it comes to grants, for example.” The outflow of financial power means less income for the main association, which also endangers their projects.
Winter continues: "Many companies have split up, but are now centralizing again so that they remain powerful." He advises against making yourself smaller and smaller instead of appearing as a community.
But just because you want to get bigger, there is a merger, Sandner replied.
"With two football departments you have more mass, which will inevitably lead to more class." It will also be easier to acquire sponsors.
"In addition, Klettham has very good officials." That would increase the team from five or six active people to ten to twelve.
Of course he likes to lead the department, "but it's really great fun again when we go together," he made clear.
"And why doesn't Klettham join us?" Winter wanted to know.
The first idea was to found a pure football club with the red and white, said football vice Edib Mehmedovic.
However, the legal hurdles under association law would have been so high “that we would never have made it by summer.
In addition, we should have started again in the C class."
With Klettham, on the other hand, you immediately get into the district class.
With Erding as the lead club, it would have been the A-Class, "Klettham wouldn't have participated," said Sandner.
Winter regretted the department's decision and once again made the implications clear: "No more football at TSV Erding.

The main club has no way of preventing the exit.
But Winter also emphasized: "The doors are still open to you."
However, it is not yet certain whether the TSV department will also be finally dead with the merger.
"We also have a boxing department without boxers," said treasurer Müller.
With the kickers, a lot now depends on whether the two AH teams might stay with TSV.
