His team caused a sensation at the World Cup, but Holland star Quincy Promes has completely different problems.
He is threatened with a murder trial, which he wants to avoid with a new passport.
Munich/Moscow - Many Russians are currently turning their backs on their country because they want nothing to do with the war.
A Dutch international might go the other way, but for a completely different reason.
Oranje star Quincy Promes apparently wants to become a Russian because he is suspected of attempted murder in his own country.
The 30-year-old, who was not nominated for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar but was nominated for the last European Championship, is currently playing for the Russian capital city club Spartak Moscow.
As the Dutch newspaper
Algemeen Dagblad
writes, citing Russian journalists, Spartak has applied for a Russian passport for the offensive man.

In 2020 he is said to have attacked his nephew with a knife at a party.
He is said to have stabbed the knife into the victim's knee and seriously injured him.
He was then held in custody for several days, but protested his innocence.
He said at the time: "I am very shocked by all this media coverage and negativity around me.
The truth will come out.
I've seen that people have already made their judgments.
Wrongly."
Promes faces immediate arrest if he returns to the Netherlands
According to a report by
Bild
, there is a risk of immediate arrest if he sets foot in his old home.
His villa in Utrecht has already been confiscated.
According to the newspaper, there is also suspicion of involvement in drug trafficking.
Attorney Yehudi Moszkowicz, representing the victim, said of Promes' plans for Russia: "It would be a smart move by Quincy Promes.
But that doesn't mean the case against him in the Netherlands won't continue.
He will simply be prosecuted and, I believe, convicted.”
If he goes through with his plans, “he will never be able to leave Russia again.
Because as soon as he sets foot on other soil, he will be arrested on the basis of a detention request from the Netherlands and then extradited from there.” He has been playing for Moscow since 2021 and has so far played 47 international matches (7 goals) for Elftal.
